How does the opening sequence in "The Matrix" capture the attention of the audience?"

Every movie consists of an opening sequence in which the producer deliberately makes dramatic in order to ensure that the audience has successfully identified the character roles and genre in the film. In the same way, the Matrix is a movie which displays a sci-fi, mystery and crime drama genre. The producer purposely ensures the movie consists of these conventions in order to make it exciting, resulting in the developing of tension throughout.

The term "Matrix" defines permanent computer dream, which shows a fantasy throughout the movie, in which both the viewers and characters are captured in Greek religion. The Matrix borrows its imagery from this due to the various names given to the characters in the movie. For example, Trinity, a character whose name represents father, son and Holy Ghost in Christianity as the three parts of God.

The name Morpheus comes from the God of dreams in Greek religion. Morpheus displays the interpretation of his name, as this is conveyed when Morpheus takes Neo into a dream, presenting him with two pills to make his lifelong decision.

The audience are then able to acknowledge that the movie is perhaps one of suspense and danger, which creates excitement as well as belief that the movie may almost be a mixture of fairytale from say, Alice in Wonderland where the character of Alice also falls into a hole where her story or fantasy begins so, the audience are now aware that the story of the Matrix has now also begun.

The film changes the audience's expectations of what the genre will be because after analysing each frame, it shows different camera shots, visual language, and ...
