A girl named Tara

It was a dark night, darker than a piece of coal. The moon was hiding behind the clouds. It was raining; the drops of rain had a silvery luster. The wind was bending the trees. Only a very few passers-by were on the streets.

In the house at the end of the street, was dark. It was the biggest house at the street, even more, the biggest house in the town. The house was built a very long time ago; even the oldest people do not remember that. And in this house in the window was sitting a girl. It looked that she was crying from a longer time. The tears streamed down her face.

Tara was a practical girl who did not need many things to live. However the room was almost empty, too empty. There was just needful furniture: a bed and a few bookcases, all from a dark wood. The space of a whole corner took a mahogany desk. It looked that this room remembered better times.

She was sitting in the big window which faced the street. The girl was hearing noises from another room. Tara heard her father arguing with her mother. It was always like this when he drank too much. It was not new for her, but it still hurts a lot when you see your mother with tears in eyes, a mother who tries to protect you from your father. It would be not so bad if he would just drink, but when he was drunk everything irritated him. It was enough to put shoes in a wrong way and the father started shouting and sometimes even beating. Now Tara knew that everything can lead to beat, so as fast she came home she started to clean to avoid father´s madness. Even though everything was clean and tidied, the father could find something wrong.

The girl heard every shout in her head. She knew that father won´t stop before he feel that he won the game. Of course this is not the first time when they are arguing. It happened very often almost every night. Tara did not sleep well from a long time. She could not concentrate at school. When teachers asked her about what is going on, she just said that everything is ok and they should not worry about her.

Tara´s family had a good opinion in the town. Father, even though unemployed, was a doctor. He worked ...
