. (Study Source A)

What can you learn from source A about the response of the British people to the blitz?

From source A, I understood that there were many people who showed an unbreakable sprit and never gave into the terrors of war. They showed a very positive response to the war. This is verified by the sentence "Out of terror and tragedy came courage and unshakable determination." It also showed that British people never gave up and they never seemed to be demoralised as "Those at home in the most appalling circumstances kept their sense of humour." Source A also states that his book was published during the 1990 to celebrate the fifth anniversary if the blitz, and this piece of information proves useful in understanding that this was published by the British to celebrate the blitz and due to this it must have been created by a British patriot. This now starts to raise a doubt if the information that this source provides is completely reliable but it can be considered as a credible piece of information. There is also another main reason why this may not be a completely creditable piece of information is because that this source originated from a publishers description of the book, the cause that this is written is to interest the reader so that he or she will buy the book. This could also raise the question if the source is completely reliable or if the information in it is fabricated so that the reader enjoys the book. Even so if this book is reliable

2. (Study Source B, C)

How useful are sources B, C in helping you understand the effects of the blitz on people in Britain?

Source B shows that the blitz caused very negative effects on the public mainly death, destruction and demoralisation of the people of London. It was stated that source B was censored during the time of the Blitz. This is because it would have demoralised the citizens. The sacked up bodies in this primary source of evidence shows that there was a great loss of life in the war and women and children were also affected equally and more that the soldiers on the front line. This is demonstrated by the source as it states that a girls' school was hit and the main casualties would have been obviously children. The blitz also forced the government into dishonesty as the government had to censor the photos of all casualties during the war and this was because they wanted to keep the moral up. This is further verified by the sentence "Photographs which had anything to do with the war had to be approved before they could be published." These were the main negative effects of the war. There were also more positive effects, for example there were a lot volunteers who were ready to help and this brought the people together. This is shown by photo in source C. Source C also shows that the people never seemed to be affected by the blitz. It is also stated that this photo was published on the 15th September 1940. This means that the Censors must have approved this photo. This could be due to it being highly motivating. This photo shows a lot of people standing together even when their homes were bombed and destroyed. I believe that the truth is that the blitz actually did affect peoples' lives as they lost their homes and they were not only civilians but even the military personal were made homeless.

3. (Study Source B, C, D)

Does Source D support the evidence of Source B and C about the damage done during the air raids?

Source D shows quite a few people on the street and it also shows that there is a lot of rubble on the street and ruined buildings. This shows that source D looks as if it does support the evidence that was provided in Source B. Source D shows rubble, which is a sign of the bombing on the other hand source B shows a lot of debris littering the floor ...
