My Work Experience

For my work experience placement, I was confused and could not decide on what to do. I was interested in doing everything from office work to teaching, but I finally managed to find myself a placement in retail at Boots in St. Georges Shopping Centre, Harrow. My hours were 10-5pm, Monday to Friday. To get this placement, I personally went in, and asked if they would take me in. When I first went there I met Sanjay (the store manager), whom I talked to, for it. He gave me their address and told me that they would take me in, as long as I had a letter from school. I was over joyed; as this was the first shop I went to and got the placement. All my worries of getting the placement were over. It was like passing a GCSE exam.

After that all the official letters and forms were completed by our work experience coordinator, Mrs. Lunan and I received an official conformation letter, after a long wait in May.

All I had to do now, was to wait, wait and wait as I had received conformation two months before. I started to get nervous and scared but also ambitious and ecstatic at the same time, because I was going to do something new and different. Every night and day I had short visions, of what my tasks would be, how I would get on and how the staff would treat me. Deciding on what to wear was not a problem because I had to wear the company uniform, black trousers, a white shirt and a blue tie. After preparing myself and packing my lunch, I left home at 9.00am. Getting there was not a problem because my friend, Bhavesh was also working there and his mother kindly offered me a lift, each morning. We got there at 9.40am and immediately went inside asking for where to go and what to do. We were taken upstairs where we met Eileen Brandy who would be our supervisor for the two weeks to come. She was kind, helpful and good hearted. She had fair skin, blue eyes and brown hair.

We had to begin with filling in health forms and watch videos on health and safety and fire. It was a pain in the neck as the videos were very long and boring. Then she gave us our locker keys and name badges. We had to leave all our valuables in our lockers, for security reasons.

At 11.30am my life turned around because Eileen our supervisor was no longer supervising us, as she was too busy and asked Sundeep, the team manager to take care of us for the rest of our stay. He was tall, brown-eyed ...
