Investigating Business Resources

Introduction:

In this assignment I am going to describe how selected business manage its existing human resources and the maim physical and technological resources that need to be considered in the running of the selected business. And I will also asses how managing human, physical and technological resources can improve the performance of a selected organisation. My chosen business for this assignment will be ASDA.

Task 1.1

There are different ways by which ASDA manage its human resources and they are:

  • Staffing to meet changing business demands: Every organisation needs to ensure that any staffs that they employ have the right motivation, skills, knowledge according to what is required by the organisation. ASDA makes sure that the staffs that are hired have all that is required of them before they can be employed in the organisation.
  • Co-ordination of team resources to meet targets: This is when staff is sharing the duties between team members in order to meet targets. ASDA give different tasks to different teams in the organisation to meet the set targets. When ASDA is given an interview to someone the interviewer will then decide on the best role that will possible suit the person for example if the result of his decision is for the person to make sure that all goods are available on the shelves and also to deal with customers this would mean that ASDA and the interviewer believe that the person has the skills needed in that team to meet their targets
  • Monitoring team performances: This is when an organisation monitors its teams in order to make sure that they are meeting their set targets. If you are working in ASDA the managers will always ask you to provide a list of the task that you have completed.
  •  Liaison with other departments: This is the co operation of two or more departments within an organisation in order to complete a task. For example if ASDA set a task to improve the sales of their product, they could tell the sales department to liaise with the production department. The sales department will inform the production department what type of product customers require while the production department will be charged with the responsibilities of informing the sales department how much the reasonable price for the product to be sold at will be.
  • Establishment of professional culture: This is the culture that is practiced between members of staff within an organisation. For example Some organisations tell their staff to dress in suits while some do not say that, in some organisations you are allowed to call your colleagues by their first names while in some you are required to use titles such as Mr, Miss or Mrs. For example in ASDA I know that they have to wear uniforms.
  • Encouragement of creativity and initiative: This is when organisation allows employees to bring in new ideas. For example ASDA could tell their employees to bring in new ideas for a new advert, or how they could sell a product that is not selling well.
  • Administration: This is the system put in by an organisation in order to manage and control the resources that they have so that to keep their employees organised. This is very essential because administration covers many areas such as filing reports, telephone calls, monitoring resources, liaising with agencies, dealing with all types of correspondence, organising and preparing for meetings.
  • Monitoring: This is when the performance of an employee is being monitored. This can be in two sections which are formal and informal. Formal may be defined as when the performance of an employee is being checked by his manager in a particular way this includes to check his lateness, punctuality, absent and informal is when a group of people in the organisation are making decisions on the progress of an employee within the organisation based on opinion.
  • Trouble shooting and problem solving: This is when a group of people are put together to solve issues that might rise within the organisation or within the organisation and outsiders.
  • Working capital: This is the amount of cash that is available for the day to day running of a business. It rise from the relationship between current asset which means anything possessed by the business which is likely to be turned into cash shortly, for example cash, stock, and debtors and current liabilities which is money that a business owes and  are to be paid shortly normally within a year period this are for example loans, bank overdrafts or creditors. working capital is calculated as

Task 1.2

The physical and technological resources that are involved in the running of my business (ASDA) are:

  • Equipment including ICT: These are the equipment needed by staffs to do their work. For example in ASDA staffs will need computer to be able to receive and send out mails
  • Building and facilities: A building is where a business operates from or where it stores its production of goods and facilities are the equipment provided by an organisation in order to make staffs and customers feel comfortable. In ASDA they ...
