This task will be done using ICT because it’s easier and you can save it on to the computer. The reasons why I think this task should be done with ICT is because it’s password protected, so nobody else can look at your work apart from you, this is relevant for Meena’s shop because some people in her shop that do not like her might go on the sight and delete the web site or write abusive language on it so customers would not shop at henna fashions thinking they are rude. You can save it on to a disc and update the web page anywhere. It is also better than carrying loads of leaflets and giving it to people on the streets. It would take less time for Meena to update the system rather than printing new leaflets all the time.
The advantages of using ICT are as follows:
- Password protected. It would make sure that no one else can see the work apart from the people in Vijay’s shop who knows the password.
- You can use a disc to save your work
- You can have multiple pages
- You can validate to reduce mistakes in your data
- You can make hyperlinks
- Data can easily be presented in tables, graphs etc
- Changes and corrections can be made quicker.
- Less paper work.
The disadvantages of using ICT are as follow
- Hardware could get a damaged disc drive.
- You could forget to save your work.
- You could get micro viruses.
User Requirements
In this project it is possible to have two users, the owner of the web-site and everyone that will use the web-site. I will consider the requirement of both types of users.
- The owner of the Web-site.
- There has to be a lot of garments for customers’ to look at.
- The web-site must increase sales in all the branches.
- It should be easy and simple for Meena or her managers to
Update the web-site.
- It should be able to add and delete pages from the web-site.
- General public.
- The web-site should be able to load quickly.
- The web-site should be easy to use and to understand.
- All the hyperlinks should work.
- It should be easy to exit the web-site.
- It should be easy for people to find this web-site on the
Search engines.
- Visiting this web-site should be beneficial to the customers’.
- The web-site should include all garment sold in the shops.
Software
The software that Meena will be using is windows 2000 operating system and office 2000, which consists of the following applications: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel Microsoft Access, and Microsoft FrontPage. An operating system is a system that makes hardware able to get to other programs. The computer will have to have an operating system otherwise the computer wouldn’t work. Operating systems can do various things and they are:
- Exchange control signals with peripherals e.g. a printer signal when paper is required.
- Translates typed instructions into machine code that the CPU can run.
- Helps the user come to a decision.
- Protect your work with a password so no one else can get into your work without the password.
The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the brain of the computer. It does all the calculations and controls the different parts of the computer. The memory is used to store information. The ability to store information is one of the computer's most powerful features. Input to the CPU comes from a device called the keyboard. You type the instructions on the keyboard. Output from the computer goes to a device such a monitor similar to a T.V. screen or a printer if a permanent copy is needed.
The CPU contains some highly advanced electronic circuitry. The CPU is divided into two sections. One part does the calculations; this section is called the ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit). The second part controls the whole computer. It controls the memory, ALU and input and output devices. This part is called the control unit. The memory of a computer is of great importance to the computer user. It is useful to know a few facts about it before you start to work on them.
The CPU does the following things:
- Carries out the program instructions
- It can perform numerical functions such as add, subtract, divide and multiply.
- Move data form one memory to another (move data from the ram to the processor)
- Decide what to do.
The ROM and the RAM are types of memory you save things in. ROM means read only memory and RAM means random access memory.
The ROM does the following:
- Read only memory, which is when you can only read and look at the information, you cannot change it or add something to it.
- Rom is not volatile; the contents will still be there even if it is turned off.
- Rom has things that the computer needs all the time (e.g. it’s has the instructions to inform the computer about how to start the programs)
The RAM does the following:
- Random access memory means you can concentrate on directly.
- You can read it and write on to it.
- Ram is volatile, if you switch it off it loses everything.
- Ram has things that you put into it.
Front page has the following:
- Set up and run your own web server
- Use themes and cascading styles to define your sites looks
- Make feed back forms and get information with a database
I have chosen to use front page because you can make customer hyperlinks and also can preview your web-site before it is put on the internet. This would be the best for Meena’s fashion shop as it will be easy for them to update the web-site and add new garments without trouble. The web-site will be updated every week and new garment will be added every fortnight.
Hardware
The hardware that I will use is a 2.53-GHz Pentium 4 processor that has the following:
- Monitor (monitor is the screen where you see your work)
- DVD drive (DVD means digital versatile disks and they are common because they have the capacity of up to 17 gigabytes and DVD’s are usually used to store movies)
- Key board (is used to enter words and figures)
- Mouse (is used to select icons to run program or to select items form a menu)
- Printer (is used to print out your work)
My system would also have a modem so you can connect to the internet. My ideal system would have a scanner to make it easier to input pictures from magazines on to the web-site.
A modem is a modulator-demodulator, it changes Analogue and digital signals in each other directions.
A scanner is used to enter pictures and texts into word processing.
