I’m talking about Smoking, the leading cause of cancer in the world.
An average smoker, smokes around 15-20 cigarettes a day. It’s said that by smoking you can drastically shorten your life by around 7-9 years, that’s about 8 minutes every cigarette you smoke, or 120 minutes a day, eventually equalling up to around 730 hours a year.
Cigarettes cause more deaths than
- Murder,
- Car Accidents,
- Work-related Accidents,
- Drugs
- & Alcohol combined
It’s fair to say that cigarettes are a killing machine, as smoking is the leading cause of cancer and diseases, such as:
- Cardiovascular disease
- Lung cancer
- Throat cancer
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease
Even if you don’t smoke you are still able to attain these disease and cancers from cigarette smoke. This is called “passive smoking” and occurs when someone is near a smoker inhaling the harmful chemicals around them.
“Passive smoking” is actually very common among society and very difficult to get away from, as one in five smoke. You may be “Passive smoking” without actually knowing it. “Passive smoking” is just and dangerous as actually smoking the cigarette itself and is extremely harmful to people, especially children, making them more likely to develop pneumonia, bronchitis and other lung diseases.
Another problem that smokers face is with their appearance. Smoking can cause yellow stains on your fingers, skin and teeth as well as a yellowy tinge in your fingernails and eyes. It can restrict the flow of energy in the skin making it weak causing dry rough skin and making you age quicker.
With all the severe health risks, the risk of passive smoking and the cost of buying the cigarettes it just don’t seem like a smart idea. And you’re right. It’s practically suicide.
People are dying every day. With families going through the heartbreak of losing a loved one and the thought of their children may have to grow up mother or fatherless. There time is cut short because of a stupid mistake.
So let me ask you this: Are you ready to put your life, and potentially your family’s lives at risk just to smoke? Just to have the 10 minutes of a “stress free” feeling? Are you willing to fork out thousands of dollars a year on basically nothing besides the empty feeling inside, with your body begging for another hit of Nicotine?
Show yourself some self respect, look after the people around you and treasure your health because if you smoke, there may not be another tomorrow. Say no to cigarettes.
