Skateboarding is a popular sport throughout the United Kingdom.

There are a countless older people think that younger skaters are out to cause trouble. In some places skateboarding is illegal and you can get fined or even arrested. On the other hand it can be very noisy, annoying and sometimes slightly destructive. Fair enough some skateboarders do cause trouble, most of the time the trouble is caused by boredom. They get bored because they do not actually have a place to skate that they do not get kicked off of. The amount of local skate parks is insufficient.

The amount of skate parks around the Bournemouth area few and that is probably the main reason for the stereotype that is going around. The majority of the time the skateboarders get bored and they cause trouble. After that it is not long until the word goes round that skateboarders are bad people. Another reason for that stereotype is that some skateboarders are skating somewhere and someone will either stay inside because they are scared (this is mostly elderly people), they would phone the police of they would go out and try and move the skateboarders along which will cause aggravation. People do not like skateboarding because most of the time it can be annoying and aggravating.

Many petitions have been put through to the local council for a skate park but according to the petitioners they just do not co-operate. The older locals even want a skate park as much as the young skateboarders . The older locals know that a skate park would keep the skateboarders out of trouble and out of dangerous skate spots. In some schools you are even not allowed to take a skateboard onto the premises, even if it is left somewhere. Some people would even call a skateboard a mode of transport.

My personal opinion is that the majority of skateboarders are out to have fun and not to cause trouble. I thing one day you would be able to skate past someone and not be looked upon and a bad person.
