1 a) WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE SALON RULES AND PROCEDURES?

In order to provide a safe and professional service it is extremely important to have rules and procedures in a salon. This makes sure that everyone understands the system and avoids confusion. It enables everyone working in a salon to be consistent and maintain a standard of service that attracts regular clients. Rules and procedures are also important in order to implement the Health and Safety Guidelines in the salon.

b) WHAT ARE THE SALON REQUIREMENTS FOR RECORD KEEPING?

Record keeping in a salon helps avoid confusion/accidents or unnecessary delays for a treatment. It is therefore necessary to keep individual records of clients. This not only gives you maximum information about the client but also allows for a personal relationship to develop making it easier to sell the services of the salon ,or, any new product that might be suitable for the client. For a professional service in a salon, the following procedures should be followed for record keeping.

Treatment cards should be kept up to date.
Maximum information should be obtained about the client.
Medical records should be locked away for confidentiality.
As treatment cards contain personal information about the client, for security the details should be kept out of the way of direct public access.
Details on a treatment card should be neat and tidy. This allows for a smooth running of a business during times of staff absences and reassures the client that the treatment they are receiving with the new therapist is appropriate for them.

c) WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KEEP ACCURATE AND UP TO DATE RECORDS?

Accurate and up to date records of clients keep the therapist /colleagues aware of any change in a client’s medical condition i.e. any allergic reaction to a product etc. It is for this reason and in order to avoid any complications, one should get maximum information from the client, which enables you to provide a professional efficient service.
