When a business is choosing a location these are the main factors it will need to consider: Land Transport Skilled and unskilled workers Near other businesses A business would have to think about how big the land will be and how cheap it could be purchased. Also it should think about being near transport so it would be easy for workers and customers to get there. A business should think about being near other businesses so there would be more customers. 2.There are many different reasons why Tate & Lyle decided to be located in Silvertown. Henry Tate sugar refinery was first established on 1878 this was an ideal location for his business, situated along side the docks where ships would bring the sugar cane from abroad and unload this at the Thames Wharf at Tate's where it would be processed from its raw state and made into sugar and ready for export. ...read more.

in, they no longer want an industrial site along the Thames as it would be an eye sore for the homes that are being built over looking the river, which only the very well off can afford. The Thames is now used for many water sports and events plus there is also Excel Exhibition Centre, which attracts people with money to the area. The History of Tate & Lyles Silvertown was originally marshland and was developed in to an industrial estate. In 1864 James Duncan built the Clyde Warf Refinery he then sold this to David Marineau in 1887, it was destroyed by fire and in1878 Henry Tate bought the derelict shipyard site and built his Thames Refinery, he expanded and developed further using the land from the Silvertown Gas & Coke Company in 1908. Conclusion

all the amenities it would not be economical, the land now is far too expensive to rent since the property developers moved in, they no longer want an industrial site along the Thames as it would be an eye sore for the homes that are being built over looking the river, which only the very well off can afford. The Thames is now used for many water sports and events plus there is also Excel Exhibition Centre, which attracts people with money to the area.
