Do pressure groups strengthen or weaken democracy? Pressure groups do both strengthen and weaken democracy, as they strengthen democracy because the give citizens a voice on a issues, be it big or small, they give a voice all the time when the group is active, they also persuade the government to change things be that laws or how the country is run, they give minorities a voice who normal would not have a voice/ representative in government or parliament, e.g. subgroups small groups on a n issue, they have expert knowledge in there area they support they also have passion and the education, pressure group carats new ideas. So pressure groups help subgroups small groups get their issue across, and to get more people to join their group and help support them. Pressure groups have expert knowledge in the area they are persuading the government, they would have people that work in that field or know about it, they also would have passion for that issue how big or small, as they would show more passion for a small issues like local parking then the government would, they could also have the education in this area al well. Pressure group makes new ideas that the government would never think about, nor even put them forward to parliament. All these show that pressure groups strengthen democracy as they help the public work in a group that persuades the government to change laws, make new laws and a change in how the country is run. As pressure group strengthen democracy the also have weakness like that they cane been seen as selfish only want one thing and don't care what everyone else wants, they only care about what they want. Also they can get to close top a political party that they start to loss touch with their members and supports, therefore losing it status with its support. Not having a elected leader is weak as everyone may not want this person, the appointed leader may not be very good at his job and therefore the group can't get its points and view across. Pressure groups strengthen democracy as they give people a voice out side of the normal party that get elected, and people can get more involve into political as the group they are in is an issue or issues that stand for and believe in, so therefore pressure groups strengthen democracy.
