How well does it meet its purpose
I believe it meets its purpose fairly well, as it consists of three pages, follows the house style and the logo is visible on all three pages. The use of a music video and relevant images help the document to meet its purpose. As well as this it also gets all the essential and important information across that is required by the audience.
What could be improved if I produced it again
There are a few things which I would improve if I were to produce it again, the main one being filling the empty spaces which are especially noticeable on the artist information page and the contact details page. If I were to produce this website again I would fill these spaces with images/advertisements or look to spread my text out more to make the most of this space. Another thing I would improve about this document if I were to produce it again would be to layout the pages differently, I would make more use of the space and arrange it in a way so that it looks less cluttered and formal, although the website must look formal to an extent I feel it is important for the site to all people or all ages and not necessarily just to those people who are interested in music or are interested in signing for the record label. I would also have produced a better and more detailed plan which would have aided me more throughout the creation of the website.
How did I refine draft copies to meet the purpose more closely
I made quite a lot of alterations to my website during its creation, the first draft was aligned wrong and the information merged with the background which made it look unappealing and unprofessional. Changing this made my document more aesthetically pleasing as well as following my house style. I always assessed my work at set intervals to make sure that I was meeting the purpose and progressing correctly, although I did come across other errors in my first drafts such as grammatical errors, broken link and images that were not displaying correctly, I focused on and corrected these areas before I managed to reach a final draft that I was happy with.
Personal Evaluation
Was I well organised
This was a large and demanding task which require a lot of organisation, as I had used the software before I was confident using it and had no difficulty creating it, however it took me a while to reach a final design which I was happy with sue to small problems I encountered and as I had not planned for these I feel I did not allow myself enough time for this task and rushed it.
What went badly
Nothing went drastically wrong in this task, but too much time was spent correcting trivial mistakes as well as searching for suitable images to display on my website. I feel my timing and organisation skills let me down on this task, and is something I looked to correct for the other documents that I produced.
What would I do differently if I had to do a similar task in the future
As mentioned I would look to rectify the layout I used, by including more pictures and generally making more use of the empty space that was available to me, I would also look to plan better, I would plan out my design in more detail and make sure I stick to it as well as setting myself a realistic time limit instead of rushing this document as I feel this affected my performance. As I was unsure how to approach this task initially I believe it would be beneficial for me to look at other website which focus on the same topic and see what techniques they use as well as the layout and what type of information they feature on their pages.
Newsletter Evaluation
The purpose of this document was to create a newsletter for the record label company; it contains information about the record label artists, a competition and a feedback page. It is consistent with my house style and the record label logo is visible on all of the pages in the newsletter.
Document Evaluation
What is good about it and what worked well
The overall layout and design was the most pleasing thing on this document. The newsletter follows my house style and the colours work well and the information stands out, the logo makes the record label instantly recognisable. The images I have used are relevant and clear which is also a pleasing feature of my newsletter.
What is not so good about it and what did not work
One disappointing thing on my newsletter is the amount of information, even though I attempted to make it concise it still seems very cluttered and disorganised, the use of images seems to squash the information. I tried to cut the information down and even though I managed to cut irrelevant information out, there is still a lot of space that is taken out which could have been used for more images.
How well does it meet its purpose
I believe this document meets its purpose very well, despite the cluttered feel, I believe it gets all the relevant information across. It follows my house style and remains consistent with all the other documents I have produced. It promotes the artists and record label in an informal way which is essential on a document such as this.
What could be improved if I produced it again
If I was to produce this newsletter again, I would have planned it more carefully so I was sure all the information and images would fit in and not look cluttered. I would have made sure I had included my record sales figures, as I had to go back and put this in, which meant I had to edit my artists page and this cost my a lot of time, this would also have been avoided if I had planned more carefully.
How did I refine draft copies to meet the purpose more closely
My first draft had no record sales figure image, which was supposed to be on this newsletter. I looked to rectify this, which meant I had to edit my artist information page. My first drafts competition page was not very professional looking, so I attempted to solve this by adding more images including a guitarist to highlight the game being advertised. I also changed some font colours to make the information stand out and add a more professional feel.
Personal Evaluation
Was I well organised
This was a fairly demanding task due to the amount of information I had to include, I believe I was fairly well organised on some parts of the task such as the actual creating and designing of the document (colour scheme, images etc) yet I was poorly organised on other important sections such as planning my document, this led to delays in time as I looked to sort out unforeseen problems which occurred as a result.
What went badly
One thing which I feel went badly was trying to accommodate the image of my record sales, I originally forgot to include this in my first draft so I had to go back and put this in, this meant that I had to re-design the artist information page and come up with a new layout. I feel I rushed this certain part of the task and didn’t complete it as well as I could have.
What would I do differently if I had to do a similar task in the future
I would first create a more detailed plan and be confident in what it is I was trying to achieve. I would look at more examples of other newsletters and documents of this nature to see how they incorporate advertisement of themselves in an informal way, which was the aim of this task. A more detailed plan would also help give me strict guidelines to stick to, which would mean I would save time and produce a more professional newsletter.
Questionnaire Evaluation
The purpose of the questionnaire task was to ask potential customers of the record label about their preferences and general views regarding music. It consisted of 11 questions, enough to give varied and detailed results. It was important for my questionnaire to follow the house style of my project.
Document Evaluation
What is good about it and what worked well
One important feature of my questionnaire that makes it good is its clear layout and presentation, the questions are clear and easy to understand and the answers are varied, the questionnaire incorporates closed and open questions. The boxes separate the questions and answers and the tick boxes are clear making my questionnaire easy to complete. Having a detailed sketch of my questionnaire really helped me to produce it and gave me a good idea of what I hoped to achieve.
What is not so good about it and what did not work
The vast area of white space makes my questionnaire look relatively empty and I don’t feel I made the most of the space I had to work with; I could have made my boxes bigger or changed the background colour to make my questionnaire more attractive to the people who will be completing it. I also struggled with the table and getting it to a satisfactory standard of colour and design.
How well does it meet its purpose
I believe it meets its purpose quite well; it follows my house style and incorporates the record labels logo. The table is laid out fairly well and my questionnaire is easy to follow. It supplies enough questions to get varied and rich data.
What could be improved if I produced it again
One thing I would improve if I where to produce this document again would be to make more use of the space available, filling it with more colour/images. I might also look for a different layout for my questionnaire, because although I feel it is laid out well I believe this is one of the reason why there is a lot of empty space and so this is something I would look to rectify.
How did I refine draft copies to meet the purpose more closely
My first draft of the questionnaire was very basic and did not look as professional as it could have been; it had no border and lacked any colour which made it unappealing. I looked to fill in the question boxes with a yellow fill to match my logo colour and house style and I also included a blue and yellow border to make my questionnaire look more attractive and help fill up the wasted space. I also made some minor alterations on my tables, which I re-sized to for more information in them.
Personal Evaluation
Was I well organised
This was a relatively simple task and I organised myself and my time accordingly, I allowed enough time to complete my first draft and enough time to correct any errors and make my improvements. I made sure I did not rush this task and tried to make it look as professional as possible.
What went badly
Nothing went particularly badly on this task, but I feel I spent to much time trying to get the table to a standard I was happy with, I concentrated on this too much and neglected other parts of this task as a result.
What would I do differently if I had to do a similar task in the future
If I were to do a similar task in the future I would look at example questionnaires and look at how they use images and borders to give me an idea of how to produce and attractive yet worthwhile questionnaire which will yield good results. I would look to get more comfortable using tables so that I would not waste as much time arranging it to a standard I was happy with.
Poster Evaluation
The purpose of this document was to produce a promotional poster advertising one of the record labels artists new album, it must include the price of the album, the name of the album and information about the launch event for the album.
Document Evaluation
What was good about it and what worked well
There were a lot of things on my poster which I felt worked well; one of these was the clear presentation and its concise information. The information is minimal yet gets all the main points across, so it is not seen by the reader as being overpowering. After I had changed the background colour, this also looked good, the black made my image and information stand out more.
What is not so good about it and what did not work
The background colour (black) I used on this document does not fit in with my house style, although this is not a huge problem as this document is more about the artist than the record label itself it would still have been effective to use the same colour as on other documents so that the record label is instantly recognisable. Another area which didn’t work particularly well is the contact information section, I wanted it to stand out yet the use of white makes it look empty yet using the same colour as my background and font mean the information is ‘lost’ and would not stand out.
How well does it meet its purpose
I believe it meets its purpose very well as it presents all the relevant information in a clear and informative style and is not too over-powering for its audience. It promotes the band, album and record label in an informal way which is essential on a document such as this.
What could be improved if I produced it again
If I were to produce it again, I would spend more time deciding on a suitable colour scheme which would work well on the poster and which also followed my house style, I would also look to rectify the contact information section and try to make it blend in a bit more but still be clearly visible. My simple plan was not detailed enough to help me on this task and so if I was to produce this document again I would create a more detailed plan to aid me during the posters creation.
How did I refine draft copies to meet the purpose more closely
My first draft had a blue background with the artists logo incorporated into it, although this meant my document followed my house style, the text was lost due to the ‘busy’ background and it became difficult to read. The album cover was also the same colour as the background which meant this did not stand out as much as I would have liked. I also looked to refine the spelling and grammatical errors which I found when analysing my draft copies as well as changing different colours and arranging things until I was happy with the final outcome.
Personal Evaluation
Was I well organised
This was a fairly small task yet it took a lot of patience and I feel I underestimated the task resulting in a lack of organisation. I did not plan my time correctly on this task and wasted a lot of time dealing with the album cover instead of making the actual poster. I was however fairly confident using the software so this meant I was able to use the features within this software to create a professional looking poster.
What went badly
Nothing went particularly badly during this task as I was confident with what I had to do, as mentioned though I was unorganised time wise and this is something I would look to address if I were given a similar task in the future.
What would I do differently if I had to do a similar task in the future
One of the main things I would do differently would to be create a more detailed plan so I had something to aim for, to create this plan I would look at more examples of posters which other record labels have produced to see how they incorporate certain information. Another thing I would do differently would to plan my time accordingly and not underestimate this task. I believe a more detailed plan would in turn help with my timing as I would know what my desired outcome would be.
Communication Presentation Evaluation
The purpose of this document was to research different types of communication methods which businesses similar to mine would use. I chose to present my findings as a presentation. I planned this task carefully and spent time on it so that I would gain benefit from it.
Document Evaluation
What was good about it and what worked well
As I spent a lot of time on this task I believe the final outcome was very pleasing as well as very useful. The simple design and concise information make it easy to follow and the detailed notes found at the bottom give a deeper insight into the method being looked at. The links all work correctly thus adding to the ease of use and giving the presentation a more professional feel.
What is not so good about it and what did not work
The plain background of white may put some people off, but I looked to eradicate this by including colourful images and text which stands out. Another thing that isn’t so good is the introduction page, it is uninviting and does not include clear directions of how to use my links and does not explain how more detailed information may be found in the notes section.
How well does it meet its purpose
The communication method presentation meets its purpose very well; it provides detailed information on a range of different communication methods as well as looking at advantages and disadvantages of each method. The images and coloured text make it more appealing yet it does not lose its professional feel.
What could be improved if I produced it again
If I were to produce this document again I would make a more detailed introduction page with clear instructions of what the audience may expect to find in the presentation. I will spend more time on my opening pages as I feel I rushed them so I could move on to researching the methods themselves, these are only minor things that would need improving, this is because I came across no real problems due to the careful and detailed plan which I created.
How did I refine draft copies to meet the purpose more closely
No major changes where made to my first draft except correcting a few grammatical errors which were found and changing the size of and aligning certain images and links, as they were placed in the wrong place or they were the wrong size.
Personal Evaluation
Was I well organised
I was very well organised throughout this task due to careful document planning and time management. My detailed plan helped me and meant I came across no major problems when designing and creating the communications method presentation. This organisation meant I was able to achieve a professional looking document with no difficulty.
What went badly
Nothing went badly during this task as I was fairly confident with what I had to do and what I hoped to achieve with this task due to careful planning and allowing myself a certain amount of time to focus on one specific method of communication.
What would I do differently if I had to do a similar task in the future
I don’t believe I would do that many things differently if I was given a similar task as I was pleased with my final outcome. It would be beneficial to look at examples of similar documents to help me and also to research in greater depth if time allows. These would make my document better and add to it to make it more detailed, professional and informative to the audience.
