Are parents the best teachers?

Extracts from this document...

Introduction

Are parents the best teachers? Teacher is a person whose occupation is teaching others, especially children. The teacher can be everybody, our parents, our friends, and school professional teachers. Who is the best one? In my opinion, the answer probably is our parents. Obviously, the first teachers we have in our lives are our parents. They teach us how to walk, to speak, and to have good manners before we enter "the real world". Before we enter the school and have professional education, parents are generally the most involved in the development and education of their children. Almost for sure our parents are the best teachers at the beginning of our lives, which actually corresponds to the parents' roles in nature. Parents are the most committed and involved in teaching their children. It seems that they have this kind of responsibilities to take care of us. They love us and have great patience while passing down their knowledge to us. They wish us to be successful and thus won't teach us some bad things. ...read more.

Parents are still in the best position of teaching their children. They try to recognise what do the children expect and find the best teaching styles for adolescents, not just give orders to their children. On the other hand, I would say that parents are not professional teachers. When children go to school and have a great diversity of teachers, they learn much more than their parents could probably give them. School teachers are professional teachers. They know the subjects that they teach and know how to teach those subjects to the children. But parents cannot. Teachers have rich understanding of the subjects they teach and appreciate how knowledge in their subjects are created, organised, linked to other disciplines and applied to the "real world". The professional teachers also command specialised knowledge of how to convey and reveal subject matters to the children. They understand how and where use various aids to illustrate the difficulties to the children. Teachers also have knowledge for managing and monitoring the children's learning. As professional teachers command a range of generic instructional knowledge, they create, maintain and alter instructional settings to capture the interest of the children and teach in the most efficient ways. ...read more.

restaurant, Bella took charge. She ordered a pineapple pizza, chicken wings and ice tea for all. Then she went to the salad bar and filled a communal bowl for the table. Totally, Bella' family spent Euro 65 for this dinner. (access on 4 December 2003 in Wall Street Journal Europe) Parents' loves are not just give wishing good things and wonderful life to their children. If it is, the children's maturations are at stake. They become more progressive and always be objectives in regard to modern trends and fashions. Like Bella, she prefers to taste western food-pizza, chicken wings and salad, rather than traditional Chinese food. Even the price is twice higher. However, some kinds of intuitions which shared between relatives about what everybody needs and great love makes our parents be very good teachers and advisers at any time. In conclusion, as parents are not the professional and knowledgeable teachers, the children generally need a great diversity of teachers in their lives, in order to have more clear views of the "real world". Generally speaking, parents are the most committed of all teachers and have the greatest emotional investments in their children.
