‘Children can’t be disciples so they can’t be Christians either.’

Do you agree?

In my essay, I will be discussing my opinions on whether children can be disciples or not.  All Christians are disciples as they are all learning about their faith.  Christians will start their journey of faith at their Baptism.  Those who are baptised as adults spend their formative years learning about faith and commitment, whilst attending services in order to prepare to make their commitment.  Children start to learn their faith at an early age at home, in school and at church, they learn to live out the values of Christianity.  They will also learn moral values that will influence their behaviour and conduct throughout their lives.  They will learn how to stand up against peer pressure and to stand up for what they believe.

On the other hand, they cannot always make an informed commitment.  They cannot make the sacrifices that the disciples made, they do not preach and teach as Jesus asked but they can pray, give to charity and learn about their Christian responsibilities.

Many important figures in the Church were called to the faith by God as Children.  St Bernadette had her visions at Lourdes, France, when she was a child.  She went on to be an influential person in the Church becoming a Saint, Lourdes is now a popular tourist area for Christians.  Also, Mother Teresa ...
