Who are the representative theorists within the learning perspective and why in your opinion, are they representative? (20)

Skinner, Bandura and Pavlov are theorists in my opinion which are important and which have contributed most to the learning perspective. They showed that a change in behaviour can occur according to their different theories which they proved with their experiments.

Skinner: he worked on operant conditioning. He outlined that we learn through reward and punishment and through this, he also showed us that reinforcement occurs, whether it’s positive or negative. The positive and negative reinforcement describe ways of changing behaviour which he clearly showed through his lab rat experiment. He demonstrated that extinction can occur if nothing is done to a particular behaviour, if it’s not reinforced in any ways but that there can be spontaneous recovery.

What makes his theories effective and contributive to the learning perspective is because he made it scientific after having been inspired by Thorndike. It has numerous practical applications and it helped to justify psychology and most importantly the learning perspective.

Another important theorist is Pavlov. He believed that learning is can be done through another type of conditioning which did not require any rewards or punishment, contrarily to Skinner. He experimented with dogs and used unconditional stimuli and conditional stimuli to create the unconditional response which then became a conditional response. This demonstrated learning through association, through reflexes ...
