Extracts from this document...

Religious Studies Coursework Section C Can killing animals for medical research, cosmetics, food and sport be justifiable? For what reason can they be killed or should they not be killed at all. Not killing animals at all would lead to overgrowth in population which could cause damage to the environment. Experimenting on animals for cosmetics is not needed because if there were no beauty products being sold then humans would like each other for the way they naturally are. Then comes using animals for sport. Torturing innocent animals for entertainment. What pleasure does anyone get from watching animals killing each other? A Hadith teaches about slaughtering animals in the right way: 'Ibn Abbas once reported that the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) ...read more.

Islam says that animals are living creatures, created by Allah and given to humans from Allah with everything else on the Earth to be looked after properly and in a way as harmless as possible. It is stated in the Qur'an 'It is he who has made you custodians(Khalifah) inheritors of the Earth'(Surah.6 V.165). In my opinion I also say that animals must be treated with respect and looked after properly just as we would treat ourselves. I believe that if we test an animal for cosmetic goods it is wrong as we must accept what God has given us and not try to alter our looks. Also for the use of entertainment, Animals must not be used. Basically I'm trying to say is we should only use animals for food and for anything else only unless there is no other alternatives at all. ...read more.
