When I went to the nursery I observed different interactions and skills that the teacher uses in the nursery when they are communication with children.

One to one interaction would be used when someone is communicating with one person at a time. In a nursery one to one interaction would be used by talking to one child in a situation that is relaxing and comforting. I went to the nursery I saw that a teacher was communicating with the other teacher about the children’s behavior and how well the children have settled in the nursery. I also saw that the two children communicating with each other really slowly, which showed me they are listening to each other and are being friendly by taking in turns. The teacher uses one to one interaction when the child is upset ten the teacher takes the children into a room where the child call talk to the teacher about how the child feels in the nursery.

Four skills I have chosen would be used in one to one communication by

Eyes contact – would be used in the nursery for one to one communication when children are talking to each other in the nursery or when the children are talking to the teacher or another member of the staff, then they would keep eye contact because this shows that they are taking interest in what the children are saying to the teacher or likewise what the teacher is saying to the children.

Body language – the nursery teacher and the children would use this in the one to one communication if both of them were feeling calm stressed, or unrelaxed. This would make them feel uncomfortable and not much one to one communication can happen. If the nursery teacher and the child are both relaxed and happy and calm then this would create a comforting and relaxed environment for the child and the teacher to have one to one interaction.

Tone – would be used in the one to one communication by the teachers in a nursery. When the teacher is teaching the children uses calm, slow voice tone, which makes the children understand what has been said to them, on the other hand if the child has done something wrong example; hitting another child in the nursery then the teacher talks to them in a quick loud voice with fixed voice tone this sends the message to the child that the teacher is angry.

Pace – pace would be used in the nursery for one to one communication by the children and the teacher. If a child comes to the teacher and speaks quickly that shows the child has something exciting to say. If the teacher has something to say then the teacher is going to use slow pace of interaction so the children can understand.

Equality would be used in one to one communication by giving the children an equal chance at explaining something and by making that they both use a language that is suitable for both the teacher and the children understand what they are saying to each other. This would be used to make sure that the child is treated equally and does not make the children feel small or out of place when the teacher at the nursery is speaking to them.
