How does the divine power play different roles in Agamemnon, Oedipus the King and Medea? How does this change of the divine influence on human being reveal the evolution of human civilization?

        The role of the divine power in the three plays changes evidently.  First, in Agamemnon, Zeus’ divine power is shown clearly by the characters such as the chorus singing for his net (justice) and Clytemnestra praying to him for her right vengeance.  Therefore, we can say Zeus’ will of justice is omnipresent and followed by all characters; put differently, the divine intervention here has very strong impact on humans.

Second, in Oedipus the King, it seems that there is little divine power appearing in the play.  No god trying to help or hinder people.  We see only twice that the Delphic oracle foretells Oedipus’ fate.  In fact, Sophocles seems to present human intelligence of Athenians without the interference of the gods; for example, Oedipus probes for truth by using his human reason step by step.  Therefore, we can say the gods in the play are silent and indifferent.
