We have learned that customer care is an important area which needs to be focused on in all types of businesses especially hospitality. The customers are need to be treated considerately to ensure that they comeback and maximize the hospitality outlet's profit. A good example for bad customer care is when a meal which is not served is held until the next day; the opportunity for a sale has been lost. The school canteen does not welcome the students at the entrance of the canteen. The dinner ladies do not say 'good morning', 'afternoon' or 'evening'. The school canteen does not do any of this because a school canteen is a different kind of outlet than other hospitality outlets have. It is a non-profit department. The staff in Betty's cafe can start the customer care by greeting and welcoming the customer at the main entrance of Betty's cafe. After the staff has welcomed the customers in Betty's caf� they have to let the customer get ready to give their order. They can start off by 'what would you like sir/madam?' The staff can take the customer order by simply give suggestions and information to the customer but quite often the customers know what they want. Some customer needs advising and talking through what they might have, explaining the menu. So it is necessary for the staff to know what is on the menu and what's in stock. In the school canteen the dinner ladies do not need the skill of to remember the menu by heart or to memorize what is each menu is made of. They do not have a wide range of menu. The dinner ladies do not have to give information about the places around by or any other information about the food and drinks Another important role of customer care is being aware of time. The serving staff should be able to deliver food or drink on time.
