The chart below shows the percentage of the people who use the modern products to pass time. The popular answers were PC games and consoles. The problem is because of this, toy manufacturers don’t make table games and toys that can compete with these products, this shows there is a gap in the toy industry.
The chart shows how in one year the sales of the product that people buy, the leading products are consoles and PCs. PC games and console games are aimed at audiences that are aged 13-17+. The reason kids aged lower than the target audience like to play with PC games is because it a long time to get bored of it.
Design Brief
I am gong to design a toy- this toy is different to the toys that you see today, for example a modern toy that children have in their homes are Hot Wheel cars, Bay blade and another good selling product in the market are consoles, one of the products that children have moved on to using, the target audience for consoles are teenagers, most children who are playing with Play station and XBOX 360s probably have brothers or sisters. The children’s friend would like to own one if they see their friend having one, so the range of target audience can go lower. The reason why children like to play with consoles nowadays is because they don’t break easy as toys and unlike toys it doesn’t only have one function.
The toys seen in shop windows nowadays use electronics and have some complicated functions and it may take a short time to get bored of it. What I want to do is make a product that competes with the modern toys and consoles. I want to make an old fashioned target game with some modern day attributes.
I am thinking of using a slingshot for my target game because it is an old projectile weapon; I still have to decide if I want to make it an outdoor game or an indoor game. I have to also find out the target audience so it is specially made for the people it is aimed at.
