This is controversial and so could be debated that it is a good or bad idea. Other points that are in favour of suing is the severity of the illnesses a person can suffer, heart disease, coughing, emphysema, cancer (lung and brain), the fact that the carbon monoxide intake due to smoking can affect babies still in the womb and bronchitis. Another large factor that has to be taken into account is whether or not passive smokers should be eligible to sue. Conclusion

In conclusion it is safe to assume that the probability of being able to successfully prosecute a tobacco company is slim due to their stature in society. There is also the factor that the government backs firms such as tobacco companies as the tax placed on such products is a great earner for the government. So even if we were to come up with a solution to the problem that resulted in the tobacco companies being sued without encouraging people to smoke, it is unlikely that the person who is suing would make anything out of such a corporate giant.
