Here are some arguments that are strongly against gun ownership. This frightening statistic tells us how many guns are in use in America; four times as many people were murdered in New York in the same 8 months as 376 soldiers were killed in war. This means that you would be safer to go into war than go on holiday in New York.
In 1991 lone there were 24703 homicides. In America there are 18000 suicides by gun each year.
Some other blood chilling reasons against gun crime is that every 24 hours a person with a gun will rape 33 women, rob 575 people and assault 1161 people. After the Columbine atrocity most parents with children at high school firmly back the anti-gun lobby.
Even with so many arguable reasons there are still some pungent statistics for guns. One strong reason for guns is that if you have a gun you are less likely to be assaulted.
In America alone 2.5 million crimes a year are prevented by guns. In the case of police having guns often a gun id never fired and blood, even the criminals, is never spilt.
Some people don’t want guns because children could be hurt. But statistics for claim that a child is more likely to be killed in a car accident than by a gun.
In Scotland there is a great need for guns. Mostly for game keeping. Game keepers use guns to control vermin. They also shoot old stags to prevent them damaging the habitat. Shooting helps the landscapes survive the winter. In Scotland game shooting helps economics by making millions of pounds. The way this work is that people arrange shooting parties for rich people. The rich people spend money on hotels, restaurants and gift shops. It also gives people jobs.
People are needed to kill foxes and stoats to make sure they don’t eat bird’s eggs.
In conclusion, there are strong arguments on both sides. I believe that only people who need guns e.g. Policemen, army men and game keepers should have guns. I think this because they are the people that the majority of the public would trust with guns. In the case of America I think they should make guns less available. I find the fact that you can walk into a shop and but a gun even if you are under age shocking. It seems to me that in the US underagers buying guns is like teens over here buying cigarettes.
I think that selling guns as laxly as that should be banned before more tragedies like Columbine happen.
