Along with GCSE Maths, this is the qualification that employers and university admissions tutors are looking out for. All aspects of life require good communication skills and the ability to understand and be understood. English GCSE provides you with a benchmark of literacy that shows you have thenecessary skills in reading, writing and comprehension. GCSE English is split into two subjects and therefore two GCSE qualifications -English Literature and English language.

English Literature involves the study and investigation of works of drama, poetry and prose from modern and classical sources. As an English Literature student you will develop skills of evaluation, critical thinking and comparison and it will introduce you to some of the great works of the greatest writers.

English Language covers the grammar, usage and practice of the English language and ensures you have the relevant skills to comprehend text and evaluate and analyse its meaning.

Both subjects are assessed by examination and Marked by Teachers has nearly 40,000 essays and answers from both subjects. This is a truly comprehensive range of material, the study of which will really enable you to progress in your understanding of essay-writing skills.
