"Frankenstein is much more than a simple horror story." Discuss the idea with close reference to Shelley's presentation of the 'monster' in the chapters proceeding Williams murder.
Frankenstein is much more than a simple horror story; it's a complex contrast between Good and Evil. However, in the novel Mary Shelley deliberately makes it hard to see who the good one is and who the bad one is, because of what the creature and victor do. In the novel Victor says "the wretch-the miserable monster, I had created." This shows that he wished he never created it, it also shows Victor's evil side. The monster replies to him by saying "your purpose to kill me, how dare you sport thus with life? Do your duty toward me and I will mine towards you and the rest of mankind." This shows that Victor has a responsibility tom take care of the monster that he's created. It's like he owes him something, he's done a good thing by giving life to the creature and here we see a nicer side to Victor because of what he's done.
