Abortion is murder, and is wrong.

Extracts from this document...

Abortion Abortion is murder, and is wrong. Think back to all you have done in your life. The first steps you took, the first time you rode a bike, the first time you learnt to swim. You've had the opportunity to do all these things but millions of children each year can't, because they're killed before they've even begun living. There are approximately 42 million abortions each year, that's about 115,000 a day1. Think about how many people don't get the chance to live their life, to do all the things you take for granted. Abortion is performed because many people do not consider a group of cells as living, and so feel abortion is not really killing a human. However, many feel life starts as soon as fertilisation has taken place and medical research proves that the foetus is a living organism. According to Shettles, "Scientists identify that the first moment of human life starts that instant when a sperm cell unites with an ovum or egg cell."2 At this time, the embryo has the ability to grow into a human. ...read more.

It may also be that she is not financially able to care for a child. Either way, adoption remains a possible option. And cases of abandonment are extremely rare in the UK because there are so many couples looking to adopt as they can't have children of their own. In this way the mother is relieved of her child, and can go back to living her life as she did before without the guilt or regret of killing a child, and also knowing she gave a child to a couple whose hope and dream was a baby to love. And the mother is also largely affected by the abortion. There are many health threats to the mother after going through with the procedure, both physical and emotional, which can often be life-long. Physical risks of abortion include extensive bleeding, cervical injury and harmful infections. The mother would also have a higher risk of miscarriages in later pregnancies, or may even get permanent damage which can prevent her from becoming pregnant in the future. ...read more.

And so, taking all things into consideration, abortion should be made illegal. It is morally wrong, and is taking the life of a potential human being. It also affects the mother both physically and emotionally. And there are many other options which do not involve the killing of an unborn child. There is always a choice, but abortion should never be one of the options. So if you ever get into a situation like this, or find someone else in a similar situation, stop and think about all the negative aspects of abortion, of the health threats to the mother, of the inconvenience to society, and of the killing of the unborn child. Think about all the other options available and say no to abortion. According to statistics, about a half of us in this school will have at least one abortion, but we can change that. Abortion kills over 42 million potential humans a year6, and together we must do all we can to stop it. 1 http://www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html 2 Landrum Brewer Shettles, American biologist 3 www.unfairchoice.info/pdf/FactSheets/PhysicalRisks.pdf 4 www.unfairchoice.info/pdf/FactSheets/PhysicalRisks.pdf 5 http://www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html 6 http://www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html ?? ?? ?? ?? ...read more.
