secretly training Jessie’s puppies to be nasty so one day napoleon got these now full grown vicious dogs to chase Snowball off the farm so that he himself could be leader. Napoleon made it a if it was his idea all along to build the windmill and everyone started on this, again Boxer and Benjamin worked the hardest. It started that every Monday morning Mr Whymper a solicitor visited the farm. A long time after when the windmill was almost finished the windmill fell down in a storm but it was all blamed on Snowball, everything that went wrong was blamed on Snowball. Many animals confessed about things that they had done, but it was all blamed on Snowball and these animals were immediately killed. When Napoleon appeared, this happened about once a fortnight he had with him the dogs as bodyguards and a cockerel was like his trumpeter. Beast’s of England was abolished and a new poem was made up about Napoleon. Later on that year Frederick and fourteen men went to attack animal farm. They had guns, and they also blew up the windmill, the animals were angry with this so they ran after the people many people were badly injured. The animals won again and this was called “The Battle of the Windmill.” Boxer became ill and had to retire from hard work, after a few days Napoleon said to the animals that Boxer was going to the vets but actually he was going to a horse slaughterers so that with the money Napoleon could buy some Whisky. The animals realised what had happened and told Boxer to get out but he was too weak to. Many years passed and many of the older animals had died. The pigs were still going strongly and they started walking on their hind legs they were becoming more and more like humans every day. He invited the neighbouring farm owners to come and have dinner and they drunk and drunk all evening.
The animals failed in trying to live without a leader, as it is impossible as we found in this book. The seven commandments were not kept at all by the pigs, by the end of the book all of the commandments were broken. The first commandment was “Whatever goes upon legs is an enemy” this was broken in many ways the first one was when Mr Whymper started visiting the farm every Monday. It was also broken when he traded some timber with Frederick and also at the end they had a party with the neighbouring farms, the pigs also walked on their hind legs which is like two legs. The second commandment was “Whatever goes upon
four legs, or has wings, is a friend” this was the only commandment which was reasonably kept. The third commandment was “No animal shall wear clothes” this was broken when the pigs put some of Mr and Mrs Jones clothes on that they had left in the farmhouse. The fourth commandment was “No animal shall sleep in a bed” the pigs slept in the beds but “with sheets” was added onto the end to make it be ok for the pigs to sleep in beds. The fifth commandment was “No animal shall drink alcohol” this was broken many times. The pigs had a pint of beer everyday and “to access” was added onto the end even though this did not come into account, but the animals thought that the pigs only had a sip of beer everyday. It was also broken at the party at the end when the pigs got drunk. The sixth commandment was “No animal shall kill another animal” this was broken when the animals confessed that they had done wrong even though it was blamed on snowball they got killed. While this was happening to the animals one of Napoleon’s helpers had added “without reason” to the end of this commandment. The seventh commandment was “All animals are equal” this was broken as soon as the rebellion had happened. Napoleon and Snowball had become leaders and all of the pigs were higher than the other animals. Near the end of the book all of the commandments were taken away and there was only one commandment it was “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
I think that George Orwell wanted to teach us that we can’t live without leaders. I think he was also trying to warn us about leaders as well because leaders can always trick you, they take more for themselves and give us less, they take privilege, there is one rule for leaders and one rule for everyone else. Leaders can also manipulate people. They change the rules slightly and pretend that they were always like that, they use propaganda to make people believe the wrong things, they always have different opinions, they make ordeals out of nothing and they also blame things on other people when they have actually made the mistake.
