Sadly without knowing it you’ve become addicted to something deadly, the next day you take one more pill and you whole world goes black. When you open your eyes you see a fire and hear a demonic laughter. You look around and notice that you’re in hell and the devil tells you that you’ve just committed suicide. He laughs hysterically once more and also tells you “you’ve forgotten that you can have too much of a good thing”. Sadly this is what happens to millions who take anti-depressants.
I wondered why doctors would think this drug would be a solution so I went straight into research. Then what I found was catastrophic, and my jaw dropped by the information my brain was receiving. I found out that these anti-depressants actually make depression worse and is the number one cause of suicide. After that only more questions started to form in my head. “Why would doctors recommend such a thing? How did this drug work? Which drug should all patients stay away from” and most importantly “is depression a disease or a feeling”? These entire questions got me more interested in this topic and egger to find an answer.
Then the answer hit me with more and more research. Most doctors always tend to think that depression is only a sickness; but that’s not all it is. It’s also a feeling and can be very normal but some doctors are blind to that fact. When depression is only a feeling medication for it can actually do nothing but worsen these affects. The way this medication operates is that it works with low levels of certain chemicals in the brain, most of these drugs are designed to increase these chemicals, and keep a balance of fluids. However not everyone has a happy ending with these drugs.
Anna is one example of an almost sad ending. She was known as patient who was on Prozac, and she was brave enough to share a story of how a medication actually made things worse. Once she moved into college she had been miserably missing her family and unhappy with her roommates. As the year wore on she went to a psychologist and he recommended an anti-depressant and during her use she started to feel “all sped up inside” as if she were “moving in fast forward while the rest of the world was in slow motion.” She was never suicidal before, two weeks on the treatment she was in the hospital because she claimed that she felt like killing herself. The sad part about this story is that Prozac is a drug sold famously across the globe, when it is the number one anti-depressant known to cause suicide. The worst part is these prescriptions don’t have any warning on them! How can a company sell something like that with no warning of any kind, I find that to be outrageous.
Surprisingly this drug even caused homicides! Millions of people on this prescription actually ended up killing others because of the reaction they got to the anti-depressant. In June, South Carolina, Christopher pitman will go on trial for the shooting of his grandparents while they slept. He was twelve when his family doctor recommended Zoloft. Three weeks later his doctor actually increased the dose because the drug was not taking an effect. Until it finally took one effect, which was the crime he committed. Anther homicide was by a fourteen-year-old on Prozac who fired a pistol pointblank at a friend. The crime one that surprised me the most was a teenage boy who beat up an elderly woman for her complaining about his loud music. It was devastating to know that something that is suppose to make you feel better actually did this to millions.
Finally the dreadful truth of these medications is finally announced about its side effects and its deadly outcome. These things just make this prescription pointless to use, so why use it. Like I stated before depression is not only sickness but a feeling and that is something all of us should remember including doctors. This medication is not for everyone and can actually hurt the ones in need for desperate help. Doctors around the world need to know these harmful effects before its too late…
