             Argue the Proposition that the Environment is no Longer a World Issue

Whenever you look at a newspaper or a magazine, you will undoubtedly find an article or a report on the latest environmental news. Scientist and politicians all discuss and debate this critical issue, and make important decisions that affect the lives of millions based on the belief that the environment is indeed still a world issue. In fact, it has never stopped being one.

The environment is our environment; we reap what we sew. Anything that is placed in the environment will undoubtedly affect us, negatively or positively. Therefore we must all rise up to the challenge and play our parts accordingly and in a responsible manner. It is true that one person does not make a significant difference, but ten people make a lot more difference than one, even more so ten thousand. That is why everybody has to step up to the challenge and accept his or her responsibility towards the environment. The frightening thing, however, is that we know the immediate effects of our actions and the current state of the environment, but we can never be sure about what will happen in the long term. In fact, it is probable that none of our changes will have an immediate impact on the environment, which makes it all the more critical that we act now.

A few months ago, there was a world summit at Copenhagen to discuss and, if possible, reverse the causes and effects of global warming and pollution. Global leaders, scientists and environmentalists all took time out of their daily lives so that they could meet and exchange ideas about how best to reduce carbon emissions and deforestation.
