Over Head Clear – Weakness - forgot to aim with her non action arm. She was also not side on when she made the shot.
How to improve – Practice standing side on lean back, and reach down your leg with your right hand (if you are right handed) and count to three. When you say three, launch your right arm in the air at the highest point, but as u go up with your arm, with your left arm, aim so that you have a wider chance of connecting with the shuttle cock. In game, if this practice is put to the test, the shuttle should fly to the other end of the court.
Long High Serve – Weakness - fails to make her opponent run to the back of the court as the shuttle cock fails to make the distance.
How to improve – Practice standing in the right stance, legs slightly apart. Put your right arm down your right leg, slightly moving your arm in front of your leg though. Hold your left arm out as if you were holding the tail of a shuttle, and raise your right arm back, keep your left arm below your waist, and swing forward and hit, not follow through, the shuttle. This should make the shuttle do this:
Short Low Serve – Weakness - shuttle doesn’t go low enough, the shuttle clears the net too high.
How to improve – Practice standing side on with your legs apart. Put your right arm down your right leg, and pretend to hold a shuttle by its tail, slowly bring your right arm up towards the shuttle and hit it gently and softly and follow through gently so that you can get a little power behind the shuttle and height. The serve should look like this:
The second picture shows the flight, with the object on the right hand side serving and how the flight should go.
Drop Shot – Weakness - the shuttle went too far over the net, almost like a soft over head clear.
How to improve – Stand side on, and look as if you’re about to perform the over head clear, as the shuttle is in the air, at the highest point, hit the shuttle, reaching for the shuttle and so that the racket look like this in mid air:
The flight of the shuttle should then go something like this:
Smash – Weakness - the flight didn’t go straight down, it was more like a fast drop shot.
How to improve – stand side on and in the same stance as you would for a drop shot. The shot is like a drop shot; however, instead on letting the shuttle come with little contact to the racket, you need to release your anger on the shuttle. Hit it so that the racket is at an angle as so in the diagram.
And the flight should go a little something like this:
Ensuring that the shuttle does not gain height and goes down fast and beats the opponent. Here are some examples of when a smash shot should be used:
Each example shows how they put their opponent under pressure and then finished them off with the final smash shot, which may have caused them the game.
