I am Ling Ern, the third speaker from the proposition team. I would like to rebut En Qi’s points. What she stated was only a generalisation and thus cannot represent that all celebrities are the same. Hence, jumping to a conclusion is unfair. An example would be like Oprah Winfrey who has dedicated her whole life to improving other people's lives, she gives her best selflessly and does not expect anything in return when she does a good cause. And even though she has had a tough childhood she still treats everyone with love and care. Unlike others who could hate everyone because of the terrible things that have happened in the past. She teaches us to pick ourselves up through hard times and to forgive but most of all she teaches us to believe, to believe in ourselves and in our dreams. That is why she is now so successful and such an influential woman and of course a positive role model.
Teenagers nowadays choose public personas as role models. Studies show a direct link between these role models and the effects that they have on the teen’s behaviour. In today's 24/7 media environment, in which teens may be spending more time with media than they are with their parents. Teen’s media environment goes way beyond television. Influencers reach out to kids via You Tube, video games, Twitter, and music -- all of which are broadcast or easily accessible 24 hours a day, hence choosing positive role models is more important than ever.
