Discuss the different ways Marvell and Drayton try to change their ladies attitude to love. Which poet is likely to be more successful and why.

Poets using the metaphysical writing method have written both poems. Metaphysical poems compare two ideas that would have been thought outrageous to put together. Both are also written to do the same thing but use different methods, which is why they are good poems to compare.

Marvell compares their lust for each other to a bird of prey, which is unusual because a bird of prey is usually thought of as vicious and fierce. Where as love is usually thought of as soft and gentle. Although this is to be expected due to the metaphysical writing method.

The metaphysical writing method is also evident in Drayton's 'since there's no help' when he compares his love to a dying body and his loves on it's 'latest breath' just like a dying person.

Both poems seem to be trying to get their ladies to agree to something. In the first 12 lines of 'since there's no help' Drayton seems to be trying to get his love to agree to
