Most of my hectic lifestyle is spent playing sport. I love to swim, play football, cricket, rugby, golf, water polo, play basketball, and much more. However, I also enjoy life at school. The subjects which I most enjoy are English, History and Maths, and much of my free time is spent on homework. My other hobbies including reading (preferably the newspaper, or literary classics such as The Godfather or The Great Gatsby) and watching films. I have watched The Shawshank Redemption a total of eight times. I enjoy watching drama or comedy on the TV, and at the moment I am hooked on Eastenders! However, I generally detest reality television programs, which I find tedious, repetitive and dull.
I am in the GCSE year at school, and feel overloaded with work. I hope to achieve highly when I take my exams at the end of the year, and make my parents proud. At AS level, I shall continue on with Maths, English, History, French and Economics, dropping French at A level. Then I hope to study an Economics based course at university. I shall continue this to the highest possible level, and hopefully gain an honours. After this, I hope to have a successful job in the city, in the area of finance, an environment which I hope will suit me tremendously. However, I realise that this is a highly charged area of expertise, and many people 'burn out'. I also realise that this is not the place to bring up a family.
After maybe ten years of working in the city (if I last that long) I shall retire to a quite life in the country. Or maybe not! I will move into the area of property, and hopefully build myself a portfolio of expensive properties, (which I shall rent out) catering for the wealthy. I hope to own properties around the globe, and live a very comfortable lifestyle - preferably in a nice warm environment, with a fleet of luxurious transport vehicles, and staff to cater for my every whim. I hope to marry, and have a couple of children, whom I shall 'train' to take over the family business.
Nowadays, I think that there is too much pressure on children. They are constantly expected to achieve, either in exams or on the sports field. Aside from these pressures, they also feel the need to fit in with their peers, whether that be in the clothes they wear, or the music they listen to. Also, parents are trying to mould them into respectable citizens. In my opinion this is all too much, and I believe the youth should be given freedom. They should be free to make their own decisions, free to do what they want (within reason) and freedom to be who they want to be. I feel that the youth should be encouraged to do what they want outside of the classroom, and it is for this reason that I would like to be given the chance to swim the channel.
On the 24th of August 1875, Captain Matthew Webb made the first observed and unassisted, successful crossing of the channel by swimming. I would like to follow in the footsteps of the 879 people who have made 1,387 crossings, and swim the channel, because it would be a great achievement. I would benefit greatly from the experience, it would also prove to me that I can succeed in life, and that I would be able to succeed in the harsh, competitive, dog-eat-dog world of business. I believe I should be chosen above any other candidates, because this would mean more to me than anything in the world. I am hard working, dedicated and will never give up, and because of this I believe it would be in your interests to pick me!
However, most importantly, if I was selected by you to achieve my dream, it would prove to me that freedom is key!
Yours sincerely,
Jordan D
