Jane and Elliot - Journal Entry

Introduction

Jane and Elliot - Journal Entry Dear Journal, I found this article to be somewhat of a pleasant exception for me. This is because one of the main messages that is constantly attempting to be sent to youths is that abstinence is the best way to go. Although I do believe in this myself and am scared to death about all of the things that can go wrong, such as getting STDs, if this message is not obeyed, it was nice to hear such a story as Jane and Elliot because these two people basically went against abstinence and are doing fine. I think that one of the main reasons that the two people in this article are doing so well is that they both seem to be very responsible. This is because Jane first freely discussed her sexual plans with her mother when she was a virgin and they decided that she would she her family doctor for birth control pills. In addition to this, Elliot was afraid of subjecting Jane to an STD so he was tested negative before anything happened between them. ...read more.

Conclusion

These two actions show a great deal of responsibility on each of their parts and that is probably one of the main reasons that they are doing so well now - they think responsibly before they act. While reading this article, I found one of the things in it to be especially important. The part where Elliot admitted that some of their friends thought that they were overdoing protection when they insisted on using condoms in addition to the pill, but neither of them cared. This is really important because it shows just how important not giving into peer pressure is. In this case, Jane and Elliot really made the right decision because it could have meant life or death (an STD being transmitted or not being transmitted). Overall, I found this article to be a very pleasant change from the ordinary horror stories about breaking the abstinence rule. However, I think that before two people read this article and decide that it is automatically okay to have sex, they need to realize just how responsible both Jane and Elliot were about this issue and act in the same way. ...read more.
