In The Austrailian July 18, scientist David Evans, a former global warming alarmist, addmited that evidence is shaky on how carbon effects global warming. In fact, Evans wrote, the current global warming trend ended in 2001. He cited ice core data from six previous global warming cycles over the last five hundred thousand years. The data revealed that temperatures rose eight hundred years before any significant increases occured in atmospheric carbon levels.
However, it is possible that global warming is happening. There are changes in the Earth’s enviroment that prove to us that global warmining is acting upon this Earth such as a rise in temperature. There is evidence in a rise in temperature from the Worldwatch report such as ‘Arctic oceancs ice: shrunk by 6% since 1978, with 14% loss of thicker, year-round ice. Thinned by 40% in under 30 years.’
Worldwide, every major scientific agency or institution that studies climate, oceans or the atmosphere agrees that the global climate is warming rapidly and the primary cause is related to . Even a short list would include such notable organizations as:
- National Academy of Sciences (NAS)
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
- NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- The Royal Society of the UK (RS)
- Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS)
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
The idea that global warming is a hoax picked up some support in the political realm in July 2003, when U.S. Senetor James Inhofe (R-Okla), former chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, concluded a on the Senate floor with these words: “With all of the hysteria, all of the fear, all of the phony science, could it be that man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people? It sure sounds like it.” To make the case that global warming is a hoax, someone would have to believe that environmentalists and political liberals control businesses and industries worldwide as well as the legislative bodies and scientific institutions of every developed nation in the world. That would be a hard case to make.
Most scientist believe that we, as people living on this Earth, are not the cause of global warming, they think that it’s an act of nature and it would have happened sooner or later, whether that later was now or three hundred years ago. There are also some scientist who believe that people are the cause of global warming, by the amount of cars we drive, how much coal and petrol we burn, the cutting down of rainforests and the amount of methane produced by animal waste.
Our planet has been slowly warming since last emerging from the "Little Ice Age" of the 17th century, often associated with the . Before that came the "", in which temperatures were about the same as they are today. Both of these climate phenomena are known to have occurred in the Northern Hemisphere, but several hundred years prior to the present, the majority of the Southern Hemisphere was primarily populated by indigenous peoples, where science and scientific observation was limited to non-existent. Thus we can not say that these periods were necessarily "global".
However, "Global Warming" in recent historical times has been an undisputable fact, and no one can reasonably deny that.
But we're hearing far too often that the "science" is "settled", and that it is mankind's contribution to the natural CO2 in the atmosphere has been the principal cause of an increasing "Greenhouse Effect", which is the root "cause" of global warming. We're also hearing that "all the world's scientists now agree on this settled science", and it is now time to quickly and most radically alter our culture, and prevent a looming global catastrophe.
In my opinion, i think that global warming is a hoax because there is not a lot of evidence to support such claims. Newspapers, scientists or even presidents say theses things because they want to scare us into believing that there is a crisis for which we need help. But in fact there is nothing to be afraid of. Yes the temperature has increased during the past few summers and decreased during the winters but has that not happened before, and in fact it has so why all the commotion over a little temperature rise.
