Introduction

Global Warming: exaggerated hoax or terrifying threat? In this essay I will discuss the advantages, disadvantages and whether or not global warming is exaggerated by the media and many different scientists. Global warming is the rise in temperature of the Earths atmosphere. The truth behind global warming is that the Earth is naturally warmed by rays from the sun which pass through the Earths atmosphere and are reflected back into space again. The atmosphere is made up of layers of gas, some of which are called 'greenhouse gases'. They are mostly natural and make up a kind of 'thermal blanket' over the Earth. This layer lets some of the rays back out of the atmosphere keeping the earth at the right temperature for humans, animals and plants to survive. Global warming is good because it keeps the Earth from getting too cold and forming another 'ice age', but if too much 'greenhouse gases' are made the thermal blanket gets thicker and too much heat is kept in the Earth's atmosphere. ...read more.

There are changes in the Earth's enviroment that prove to us that global warmining is acting upon this Earth such as a rise in temperature. There is evidence in a rise in temperature from the Worldwatch report such as 'Arctic oceancs ice: shrunk by 6% since 1978, with 14% loss of thicker, year-round ice. Thinned by 40% in under 30 years.' Worldwide, every major scientific agency or institution that studies climate, oceans or the atmosphere agrees that the global climate is warming rapidly and the primary cause is greenhouse gas emissions related to human activity. Even a short list would include such notable organizations as: * National Academy of Sciences (NAS) * National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) * NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS) * Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) * The Royal Society of the UK (RS) * Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) * Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) The idea that global warming is a hoax picked up some support in the political realm in July 2003, when U.S. ...read more.

Conclusion

However, "Global Warming" in recent historical times has been an undisputable fact, and no one can reasonably deny that. But we're hearing far too often that the "science" is "settled", and that it is mankind's contribution to the natural CO2 in the atmosphere has been the principal cause of an increasing "Greenhouse Effect", which is the root "cause" of global warming. We're also hearing that "all the world's scientists now agree on this settled science", and it is now time to quickly and most radically alter our culture, and prevent a looming global catastrophe. In my opinion, i think that global warming is a hoax because there is not a lot of evidence to support such claims. Newspapers, scientists or even presidents say theses things because they want to scare us into believing that there is a crisis for which we need help. But in fact there is nothing to be afraid of. Yes the temperature has increased during the past few summers and decreased during the winters but has that not happened before, and in fact it has so why all the commotion over a little temperature rise. . ?? ?? ?? ??
