        This coursework is based on the great novel of Robert Louis Stevenson ‘Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde.’ My focus will mainly be on the two sides of Dr Jekyll, himself and the ruthless murderer Mr Hyde, who becomes a part of him. The climax intensifies as Mr Hyde brutally murders innocent civilians. Dr Jekyll’s life becomes a roller coaster and a lot of suspicion arouses. Stevenson’s writing enables us to become involved with Dr Jekyll and his constant struggle with Mr Hyde. This resonse will refer to three specific chapters to highlight this battle of duality.

        In Robert Louis Stevenson’s (1850-1894) youth he was often noted forhis powers of invention and creativity. He was brought up in the town of Edinburgh. He was allegedly the successor of a civil engineer, his father. Due to his ill health he could not fulfill his father’s wish. He felt that becoming a lawyer would suit his personality, so eventually his hardwork would pay off. He miraculously his powers to write as a novelist. ‘The strange case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde’ first came to him in his unconcious state of a dream.

        The novel is supposedly about Dr Jekyll, a respected scientist, and his friend Mr Utterson. Dr Jekyll begins to experiment on himself rather than let the poor animals suffer. He deforms into the dispicable Mr Hyde with excrutiating pain. This failed disaster led to the devastating fiendish acts following in later chapters in the novel.

        This addictive state led him to believe that if he could not consume the medicine he would not be able to survive. His lust for the medicine begins to increase devilishly. He then begins to lock himself away from society itself, thinking of the benefit and safety of the whole of mankind, he decides he would not unleash Edward Hyde unto the world.

        Jekyll in the form of Hyde causes havoc within the midst of society. Mr Utterson the lawyer becomes involved in the situation of Dr Henry Jekyll and Mr Edward Hyde. As the mass murderer continues ...
