I am standing here today to prove to you that the defendant, Macbeth is not guilty of committing the murders of King Duncan, two guards, Banquo and the attempted murder of Fleance.

Although undoubtedly guilty of murder, there is no doubt in my mind that Macbeth is to be blamed entirely. Firstly, you may be thinking that Macbeth is a cruel man, but if I should remind you Macbeth was a brave man because he fought with great courage for his country. It is not only I who think this of Macbeth it was Duncan as well. Previously he greeted Macbeth with

“O worthiest cousin.”

After the Battle it was then when three strange apparitions of evil, I will refer to them as weird sisters appeared in front of him. The witches told Macbeth that he would be Thane of Cawdor and then King. Can you imagine the terror on Macbeth’s face when he was told his future? Can you? At first Macbeth refused to believe them, and in my opinion this is the correct way to deal with evil.

However it cannot be argued that Macbeth did want these prophesies to come true. After the first half came true Macbeth would obviously be surprised, just like anyone else. But Macbeth decided to just let events take their course without his interference. This shows that Macbeth had no intention of murdering Duncan in order to gain the title of King.

Macbeth had already been exploited with evil forces. Without the manipulation of the witches, the idea of kingship would have never crossed his mind. Never.
