ICT has had had affects on the society which is both good and bad. However the effects on society are mainly bad.

People are more liable to be exposed to cyber crime. By being exposed to cyber crime the customer, they lose confidence in the business. When the consumer loses their confidence it leads to the business not making much money. This is due to the business not being able to sell their goods as other sellers that sell on that site are scamming consumers for their money. For instance, EBay allows other seller to sell their goods which are not exactly what the buyer bought. When more consumers get affected by it more and more it leads to more people deterring from the site and thus legitimate seller loses buyers from the site.

Another Effect is that the existing companies will be affected by that new business which better profit margins appear on the internet. This leads to old businesses which are not available through the internet losing out on the customers. By not having an online business customer can only go buy their goods when the store is open and thus it makes it difficult for certain customer to buy their goods. So by having online business it helps those who are less able.

Having the internet open for many people to use in the world has lead to the people to become isolated from the world. This would have been caused by the addiction of being supplied all their needs online. These needs include their shopping, Friends and all the entertainment a person needs. By having all these it makes people lose face to face interaction and so they become less sociable.

A positive effect on society is that the consumers can be at home to make purchases without moving. This is beneficial for those who are less able to make it to business to buy goods that are not accessible to them as the business does not provide the help to buy the goods in the store. If the person is disabled and cannot go into a shopping centre like Westfield to buy a gift for their relative they can go online and buy their present and have it sent to their relative’s home. Generally the price of goods online are cheaper then the price in store.

Another affect on the society is that people have more time on their hands. This is due to the reduced amount of time to do certain task that a person needs to do. For instance if people need information about sports score and they cannot access a T.V they can go onto a website and all the information is displayed on the site. Another thing a person can do is that they can do all their shopping online, skip the queues to purchase and then have it delivered to their house at a later time. This is good for the consumers as they can do all they want to do with the excess time, meaning they do not need to spend time on other things.

To conclude the internet has brought many affects on the society. By having it has reduced the amount of time that people spend on tedious task that people may not want to spend so much time on. However by having the internet it has also decreased the interaction of people as they become too hooked onto the internet. The internet is good for both the Business and the Consumer, but they both make some kind of losses.
