If I was directing act one scene five in the play Romeo and Juliet this is how I would do it.

These are my instructions to the set designer.

Dear set designer,

I want it to be set in the current time of year 2002. I want act one scene five to be at a party in a large beach house in Miami. I want it to be night time and on the beach a large bonfire. The house will be very well lit but the beach will be a lot darker with only the bonfire, moon and stars for light. The downstairs of the house (which will be the only part shown) will be very crowded. It should also be crowded around the bonfire but away from the bonfire it will be quite dark and easy to not be noticed for Romeo and Juliet’s more intimate scenes.

These are my instruction to the costume designer.

Dear costume designer,

As it is set in current times everyone needs to be in now-day clothes. The party will be a sort of casual dressy party meaning no long flowing ball gowns but no scruffy jeans and trainers. It will be quite a warm night so short dresses (nothing to fancy) and men in trousers and tee-shirts or sweatshirts. You will also need to find a need to find a mask to go with the clothes Romeo is going to wear.

For my cast I will have Brad Pitt as Romeo and Julia Roberts as Juliet. I choose them two because after seeing them together in some films e.g. the Mexican I know they work well together and have a good on screen chemistry.

These would be my instructions for Brad Pitt on how I want him to act.

  Dear Brad Pitt,

When you at the party you act like you would rather be any where else. You don’t really get in to the swing of things. You’re a bit annoyed ...
