Introduction

If I was directing act one scene five in the play Romeo and Juliet this is how I would do it. These are my instructions to the set designer. Dear set designer, I want it to be set in the current time of year 2002. I want act one scene five to be at a party in a large beach house in Miami. I want it to be night time and on the beach a large bonfire. The house will be very well lit but the beach will be a lot darker with only the bonfire, moon and stars for light. The downstairs of the house (which will be the only part shown) will be very crowded. It should also be crowded around the bonfire but away from the bonfire it will be quite dark and easy to not be noticed for Romeo and Juliet's more intimate scenes. These are my instruction to the costume designer. ...read more.

In the mean time Tybalt has noticed you and is coming to pick a fight but your not really in the mood so you are quite glad when Capulet intervenes and puts a stop to it for the moment but you don't see the look Tybalt gives you before disappearing. While this was happening Juliet seems to have disappeared and you quickly walk around, see she's not in the house and go out the double glass door on to the beach. You look around and see her standing away from the dancing around the bonfire by herself gazing at the sea and stars. ...read more.

When Romeo stands next to you and starts to flirt you reply but you don't properly start to come out of your shell until line 101. After you kiss then you're flirting very much. When the Nurse calls you to go you look upset to leave him and go slowly like you would rather stay. After Romeo has left, you see the Nurse and come up to her. You are hoping to find out who he was. When you find out that he is a Montague you are horrified and sad. When you say the line "my only love sprung from my only hate". Those are the two emotions that I want you to say it with but as you say the rest you calm down and don't sound shocked and only a little upset as you realise it's too late and you are already in love Iram Tariq 1 English Coursework ...read more.
