Isabel still had the earlier argument going over and over in her head.  She had begged Lewis not to go away, to a so called urgent conference.  But for all her shouting, crying and trying to reason there was no way he was going to cancel his trip.

She walked along the narrow moss covered path that curved down to the small log jetty.  She could have found her way down to the waters edge blindfolded.

She paced up and down, checking her watch every couple of minutes, mumbling under her breath.  The small ferry finally came into sight, Charlie had captained The Glade ferry for as long as Isabel could remember.  The sight before her soothed her mood.

Isabel waved goodbye to Charlie as he moved slowly off the small moorings.  She cautiously made her way along the river path, this was such a small community everyone knew everyone and everyone’s business.  She slipped through a small gap in the hedge, checking all the time that no-one was around to see her, into Graham’s overgrown garden.  Isabel’s heart was beating like a drum, goose bumps covered her body from the excitement that lay ahead.  She knew it was wrong, she had been seeing Graham for nearly a year now, she loved Lewis very much but he had become more and more involved in his work leaving less and less time for each other.  He use to make her feel so special, she was always laughing whenever he was around but all that had changed until she met Graham.  He had showered her in compliments and made her laugh deep and hard again.  She was enjoying life again.  Graham was a graphic artist that had moved here from the big smoke 18 months ago, to set up his growing business from home.

Isabel could pretty much guarantee he would be home when she could take the opportunity to drop in.  She opened the back door and made her way into the warm kitchen.  She felt funny, uneasy something didn’t feel right.  There was an uncomfortable silence about the normally busy music filled cottage.  Isabel called out “Gra, Graham are you here?” there was no answer, just the feeling inside her telling her something was very wrong.  She carried on walking into the dinning room, as she stepped forward her foot felt something wet and warm.  She looked down and immediately jumped back ...
