AQUATICS AT THE CWG 2010
I have chosen Aquatics as my favorite sport to write on, because I love swimming and I really am interested in it. It was the only sport from the CWG that I loved and the only sport that I would find information on, with enthusiasm and my full attention on it, because I would like to know more about it. Following is all the information on aquatics.
Among the 17 categories of sports, one is Aquatics. Aquatics has been taking place in the Commonwealth Games for a long time.
It took place at the SPM Swimming Pool Complex, Talkatora Gardens, Delhi from 4th to 13th October 2010. Aquatics included the categories of swimming (nineteen events for men and for women), diving (three events for men and for women) and synchronized swimming (two events), with 48 sets of medals competed in total. The training venues were: The Games Village, Yamuna Sports Complex, MDC National Stadium Complex, Siri Fort Sports Complex.
There were in total 56 set of medals in the discipline of aquatics that were going to be competed for at the 2010 Games. 68 players could have been sent in total by the Commonwealth Games Associations to compete for the aquatic event.
Swimming
Swimming was a core sport. There were 44 swimming events that took place at 2010 Commonwealth Games from 4th to 9th October. 3 swimmers at the maximum participated in the individual swimming event, whereas, 1 team took part in the relays.
- Relays: 4X100 m freestyle, 4X200 m freestyle, 4X100 m medley
- Individual medley: 200 m, 400 m
- Butterfly: 50 m, 100 m, 200 m
- Breaststroke: 50 m, 100 m, 200 m
- Backstroke: 50 m, 100 m, 200 m
- Freestyle: 50m,100m,200 m,400 m,800 m (only women),1500 m (only men)
Certain Paralympics events in swimming also took place for the disabled athletes. These were:
- Women's 100 m butterfly - S9
- Women's 100 m freestyle - S9
- Women's 50 m freestyle - S9
- Men's 100 m freestyle - S10
- Men's 100 m freestyle - S8
- Men's 50 m freestyle - S9
Diving
Diving came under optional sport. There were 10 diving events that were held at the 2010 Commonwealth Games from the 10th to 13th October for men as well as women. 3 divers had to enter in a particular event while two pairs of players had to participate in the synchronized events:
- Synchronized 10 m platform
- Synchronized 3 m springboard
- 10 m platform
- 3 m springboard
- 1 m springboard
Synchronized Swimming
Synchronized Swimming came under optional sport. There were 2 events in synchronized swimming that took place on the 6th and 7th October, 2010. The events were both duet and solo and were meant only for women. 3 swimmers could participate in solo synchronized swimming event and one pair of swimmers could participate in duet synchronized swimming event.
RESULTS
- In the Women’s 3m Springboard Finals, Sharleen Stratton from Australia, won the Gold medal with three hundred and seventy-six points; the Silver medal was won by Jennifer Abel from Canada with three hundred and thirty-eight point fifty-five points; and, finally, the Bronze medal was won by Jaele Patrick from Australia, once again, with three hundred and twenty-six point fifteen points.
- In the Men’s Platform Finals, the Gold medal was won with five hundred and thirty-eight point thirty-five points by Tom Daley from England; the Silver medal was won by Matthew Mitcham from Australia with five hundred and nine point fifteen points; and the Bronze medal was won by Bryan Nickson Lomas from Malaysia with four hundred and eighty-seven point fifteen points.
- In the Women’s 1m Springboard finals, the Gold medal was won by Jennifer Abel from Canada with three hundred and one point seventy-five points; the Silver medal was won by Sharleen Stratton from Australia by two hundred and ninety-nine point fifteen points; and the Bronze medal was won by Emilie Heymans from Canada by two hundred and ninety-six point one points.
- In the Men’s 3m Springboard Finals, the Gold medal was won by Alexandre Despatie from Canada with five hundred and thirteen point seventy-five points; the Silver medal was won by Reuben Ross from Canada with four hundred and fifty-seven point fifteen points; and the Bronze medal was won by Grant Nel from Australia with four hundred and fifty-six point fifty-five points.
- In the Women’s 10m Platform Finals, the Gold medal was won by Pandelela Pamg from Malaysia with three hundred and seventy one point zero five points; the Silver medal was won by Melissa Wu from Australia with three hundred and sixty-nine point fifty points; and the Bronze medal was won by Alexandra Crox from Australia with three hundred and fifty-five point forty points.
- In the Men’s 1m Springboard Finals, the Gold medal was won by Alexandre Despatie from Canada with four hundred and sixty-eight point fifteen points; the Silver medal was won by Matthew Mitcham from Australia with four hundred and forty-one points; and the Bronze medal was won by Scott Roberston from Australia, as well, with four hundred and nine point fifteen points.
