George: A clever man who is after the “American dream” – this is the pursuit of happiness. He is also friends with Lennie and looks after him.
Lennie: A tall and strong man who travels with George . He is also mentally disable and so follows commands from George.
Candy: He works at the ranch and is a good friend to George when they meet. He wishes to join Lennie and George in their "dream" of a being great.
Curley: He is a rude and jealous man. He is married but her name is called as Curley’s wife. And also is very protective of his wife who as everyone hates him. Curley is the boss's son so is a young person. He was once a semi-professional boxer.
Curley's wife: She is the only women in the story. She is a pretty young woman who is mistrusted by her husband Curley. Her character’s name is "Curley's wife," which makes her the character in the story without a name.
Slim: Slim is respected by all the characters and is the one character that Curley treats with respect other than his dad
Crooks: He is hated because he the only black guy in the story. His personality is very much like Candy. He is away from the other characters and sleeps relatively far from the other workers and is bullied from discrimination. He is seen rubbing oil into his spine as seen in the movie and read in the story.
George is also lonely despite his friend Lennie always close by to him. This is because Lennie is mentally disabled and therefore George can’t hold any important conversation with him or ask and expect a decent answer to a question. He builds up on frustration when he is kicked out of all his jobs due to Lennie being silly and acting as a kid. Personally I think that George don’t want someone around such as Lennie destroying the very little life he had but the reason why he is still with him is if he loses him to would get more lonely. This loneliness theme keeps them searching for another and another job. "Well, we ain't got any,' George exploded. 'Whatever we ain't got, that's what you want. God a'mighty, if I was alone I could live so easy. I could go get a job an' work, an' no trouble....An' whatta I got,' George went on furiously. 'I got you! You can't keep a job and you lose me ever' job I get. Jus' keep me shovin' all over the country all the time. An' that ain't the worst. You get in trouble. You do bad things and I got to get you out." This quote suggest my comments.
After losing all his jobs and trying to predict whats going to happen he says this pharse showing what they think they really are and showing their loneliness "Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place. They come to the ranch an’ work up a stake and then they go inta town and blow their stake, and the first thing you know they’re poundin’ their tail on some other ranch. They aint got nothing to look ahead to.”
Slowly the hate towards Lennie gets higher and higher to the point when he kills him. This quote show a how he changed from being so friendly to Lennie; to talking about what he does for him and point out all good things he does (So that Lennie can be a little less harder to control. “Well, I never seen one guy take so much trouble for another guy.”
