The ostler
Wilkie Collins has created a strong, mysterious and scary Villanes in his story, 'The Ostler'. In the nineteenth century, this type of woman would have been very unusual. She seems to have a violent character. For instance, In Isaac's dream, she tries to kill him with a knife.
This also introduces the issue as to weather she is actually a real person or a ghost, as it is a bit strange to have a disturbing dream about someone that you have not met and then to go and marry them. She is a very mysterious character as we don't know much about her, and she is quite spooky because she sometimes seems to just appear out of nowhere and seems not to ever make a noise: Speechless, with no expression in her face, with no noise following her footfall" She almost seems surreal.
Another slightly odd thing about Rebecca is that she seems so innocent and beautiful, but she is not perfect with her looks,: "She was a fair, fine woman, with yellowish flaxen hair and a droop in the left eyelid".
