The Tell-Tale Heart-Police Interview.

Green Police Station, West London.It is middle of the day and in the room there are two police officers, Detective Sergeant Ian Copper and Detective Chief Inspector Bill Poole, and the suspect, Mr George Hedge. The interview is being tape recorded for use as evidence.Mr Hedge, you are here being interviewed for the killing of Mr Victor Bird.Mr Hedge, what is your relationship to Mr Bird? And for how long you have known him?I was his lodger. I rented one of his rooms for 6 months now. I met him at UCL where I study.According to our researchers and their forensic work, the murder happened around 10 and 11 pm. Where were you at that time?I was in my room studying.What were you studying?I’m an engineering student. I was studying for the end of term exam. I have a lot to do  and wanted to go to bed early.Why, what were you planning?I start work at 7 am on Saturdays.What work do you do? Are you…I work hard but I don’t spend much.What do you know about Mr Bird’s gold?I heard he had quite a lot of gold, but I had no desire for his gold.No desire? It gives you a motive for murder. If you had Bird’s gold you would not need to work and could finish your studies. Is that why you killed him?[Mr Hedge stands up quickly]It was his Vulture Evil Eye!! Yes, it was this!Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold.I wanted to kill him! You might think I’m mad but I’m not because if you were in my shoes, you will understand what I mean.Do you have any other reason why you killed him?No, I had no desire for his money or gold. I loved the old man, he never wronged or insulted me. It was his Evil Eye.So how did you kill him?I leapt into his room. He shrieked once only. In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him. I then smiled gaily, to find the deed so far done. But for many minutes, his heart beat on with a muffled sound. Then I removed the bed and yes he was dead! Stone dead. And most importantly I felt his eye would trouble me no more. I know what I did was right and God will forgive me.Are you telling the truth, George?Then how did the body ends up in parts?I dismembered the corpse, I cut of the head and arms and the legs.I think you’re mad. You say you loved him and that you didn’t want his gold. Then you murder him and cut up his body! Come on, George!But why there wasn’t any blood?[Mr Hedge laughs]I chopped him up in the tub.How?I used the meat cleaver from the kitchen. It’s very sharp and didn’t take long.What do you think of what you did?I know you thinking that I'm mad but trust me, I'm not. It was a damn right thing to do. Can I go now?[Mr Hedge  Thumps the table]Go where? You killed someone and you think you can leave that easy?[Mr Hedge  points at Ian]What I did was the right thing to do.Mr Hedge, you are charged with the murder of Victor Bird.[Mr Hedge bangs the table]The interview is terminated at 4:15 pm.
