Billy arrived in school a couple of minutes late but the first thing he heard was ‘’Bill’’ he turned around it was grant.
‘‘Orite mate’’ Billy said they walked down the corridor to their new classroom. No one really knew why Billy, probably the most popular kid in school, picked Grant who was a bit of a nerd at the best of times to be his best mate although they had know each other since primary school and also Grant was quite a big lad for his age so no one really would mess with them as a couplet. At break time Billy’s ‘crew’ were sitting on the bench and Omar’s clan walked past, the two groups stared at each other until Omar said confidently ‘c’mon then you lot lets have a fight, Friday night after school by the bus stop’
‘Your on, lets av’ it out right, but no weapons’ Billy exclaimed, and that was that. That afternoon Billy got home and decided he needed a rest, he poured himself a nice cold glass of smooth Tropicana orange juice and walked to his bedroom, he was just settling down when his brother stormed in ‘sup bruv’ Elliot shouted ‘good day mate, At school?’
‘‘usual’’ Omar groaned ‘that place does my nut in’ he said in a frustrated manner.
‘‘it did when I was your age bruv, you’ve just gotta’ stick it out’’
‘’I’m knackered mate, I’ve gotta get some kip, tell mum I won’t be eating can ya?’’
‘’sure, see you tomorrow’’ Elliot shut Billy’s door and Billy soon nodded off.
‘BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP’ Billy opened his eyes it was four days until the big fight and he was starting to get excited. As usual Billy heard his mum calling, ‘wakey, wakey rise and shine sleepy head its time to get up!’
‘Yes, mum orite you don’t need to shout, woman’ Billy was the age where nothing matters. Billy’s mum just ignored him. He got out of bed quite quickly this morning and jumped into the shower for 5 minutes did all the usual stuff but this morning he couldn’t be bothered to do his hair. This morning he decided to have a bit of marmite on toast which he ate on the way to school. That break time Omar came up to him ‘You’ve got no chance against us on Friday we are gonna’ muller you lot your all pricks’ Billy didn’t like this one bit and neither did Grant who he was with at the time, he threw back an unnecessary raciest remark ‘shut up you stupid nigger’ Omar looked as if he was about to burst into tears, instead he just said ‘piss off’ Billy had, had enough he didn’t have a good temper anyway so he just punched him the hardest he could in the face ‘well played’ Grant said ‘he deserved it’ it was a one punch knockout but after a minute or two Omar woke up in a daze and hobbled off. Luckily it was round the back of the school and no one else noticed, Omar wouldn’t dare tell anyone about what had happened because he was too embarrassed. The rest of the day ran pretty smoothly for Billy until when he was walking home. It was quite windy and in the wind all he could here was ‘Friday bad day, bad day Friday, Friday bad day …’ repeating over and over again and after a minute is faded out, it was a horrible whisper that he heard and he was traumatised by the experience although he didn’t really know whether it was in his head or not. Billy was tired again that night but he didn’t skip dinner, he got in, had a snack, got his homework over and done with, watched a bit of telly and had his pizza his mum had cooked, but the whole night he couldn’t get that angry hateful voice out of his head, he felt as if his head was a tape recorder playing those word on loop mode. Billy went to bed early that night. He had an awful dream that night about him being on the floor and getting kicked all over by Omar’s clan and he was helpless, he woke screaming 20 minutes before his alarm was due to go off.
Three days: Billy did his usual morning routine and got in school on time for the first time this term. Billy was in a bit of a state all day and Grant couldn’t work out what was wrong to him it was as if Billy had lost all his confidence and this was what a lot of people admired about him. If Billy lost his confidence it was they didn’t have much chance of Friday. That night Billy had the same dream only on Thursday morning he woke up crying his eyes out. ‘You’ve gotta stop this Billy are you a man or a mouse’ he said to himself, that day Billy had a boring day at school even though it was the day leading up to the big fight, and that night he went to bed a little later than usual but fell asleep straight away, however the same dream was present while he was sleeping and when he woke up which was on his alarm he wasn’t scared at all and he certainly lacking in confidence. He got to school and the first thing he heard was ‘ready for the big fight later mate’ he turned around to see Grant grinning, Grant was looking forward to the fight more than Billy which was unusual for a nerd but maybe it was because he hadn’t been in any other fights. ‘yep, I’m as ready as I will ever be, I should be a laugh watching them squirm anyway’ Billy replied. The whole day went slower than ever for Billy and he started to get butterflies just above his stomach in the last lesson. So the big fight, Billy hadn’t a clue as to what was going to happen and so many things were swirling around in his head Billy’s crew got to the bus stop to find the clan were already there, ‘let’s av’ it then’ Billy said, every single one of Omar’s companions picked up a baseball bat from behind their backs ‘orite then’ Billy’s face dropped
‘I-I said no weapons didn’t I’ Billy’s voice was petit at this moment in time and he knew it he couldn’t even speak properly ‘well I don’t know what you said and to be honest I don’t rally care, besides It will teach you not to punch people like you did me’ Billy stood there not knowing what to do but he friends left him, they ran away like a flash and Billy was there alone. Omar’ clan slowly walked closer to him with there baseball bats resting on their shoulders and he turned to run away but he was surrounded they was nothing he could do he was helpless again, they each batted him around the head until he went to the floor, he already seemed knocked out but they insisted on more and more until his whole face was red with blood. He was taken to hospital as soon as a passer by noticed him and he was on a life support machine in a coma, he never woke.
