The wisdom of one word. After conversing for a few minutes, the friendly bum told me to follow him. He told me that he had something to show me and share with me. We walked to a Library.

I felt unexpected. The bum then asked me if I could buy him a cup of coffee. I told him, "No, sir, but a soda would be great." We walked to a corner shop and sat down on a bench while we enjoyed our drinks. I tried to treat him well. But I was still scaring.                                          

After conversing for a few minutes, the friendly bum told me to follow him. He told me that he had something to show me and share with me. We walked to a Library.                                                    

A few moments later, he returned with a couple of old books under his arms and set them on the table. He then sat down beside me and spoke. "There are two things I want to teach you and they are these:                           "Number one is to never judge a book by its cover, for a cover can fool you." He followed with, "I’ll bet you think I m a bum, don’t you?" I said, "Well, uh, yes, I guess so, sir." "But I am not!" He said. "Do not ask me who I am. So, you see, don’t ever judge a book by its cover, for a cover can fool you."                                                    

"Number two is to learn how to read. For there is only one thing that people can’t take away from you, that is your wisdom." Then he said nothing and left. He went down the steps and back on the streets near where we first met.                                                                    

I didn’t know this person until now, but he taught me a lot. He was a kind person, but what did I do? I kicked him, but he still forgave me. I also thought he thought I was a good person and I should know how to treat others and myself. So he gave me a lesson and I got it. I would remember him forever.
