What was the cause of Mercutio’s death and whose fault was it that he died?

Mercutio is a neutral in Romeo and Juliet and is a member of the prince’s family.  He is a good friend of Romeo and he and Romeo get on very well together.  Mercutio was killed by Tybalt in the streets in Verona which is an area where the play was set.  Mercutio was killed because he started to fight with Tybalt because he thought that Romeo was being a coward because he was not fighting.

        Mercutio’s death could have been down to a number of reasons.  One of these reasons is the fact that Tybalt was fiery and angry because he had just heard about the marriage of Romeo and Juliet and he was looking to fight Romeo because he was annoyed, as Romeo was a Montague and he and Juliet were both Capulet’s, but Romeo did not want to fight because he was too happy as he was in love with Juliet:

‘Well, peace be with you, sir, here come my man.’

This quote shows that when Romeo enters the streets of Verona Tybalt says that his man has arrived, the man he had been looking for so that he can fight and kill him.

‘Romeo, the love I can bear thee can afford

No better term than this: thou art a villain.’
