The next two murders are considered the "double murder," because they found the victims at the same date, September 30, 1888. (3) Elizabeth Stride was discovered on Berner's Street. She was
strangled and her throat was cut just as the others before her, but there was nothing that could be construed as body mutilation.
It is speculated that either Ripper was interrupted before he had a chance to completely finish the murder, or that this is not the work of Jack the Ripper.
Catharine Eddowes' body was also found on this date. Her body was uncovered at Mitre Square, and again, she had also been strangled. Her throat was cut, and corpse was horribly mutilated in a way unlike the previous victims
Five weeks later Jack killed again with the most horrible murder of them all. Mary Kelly was killed at 3:30 AM on November 9, 1888.(4)There was very little left of Mary to examine. She was found nude in her home on her bed. The murderer spent more than an hour mutilating the corpse after slitting her throat. There was so much blood that Jack had to wipe it away with rags, which he burned in a small stove as he worked. Jack had cut away all the flesh from her face, chest, one thigh, and her ribcage. Her throat had been torn apart. He slashed her from her rectum to her breast bone.
Upon his arrival, policeman John McMarthy had this to say, "It looked more like the work of the Devil than of a man. I had heard a great deal about the White chapel murders, but I declare to God I had never expected to see such a sight as this”.
Throughout the time the murders took place the police and newspapers were bombarded with letters from a writer clamming to the known killer “Jack the Ripper”. In the letters there was a description in which the victims were murdered. But it was more gruesome in the real life.
The first letter to be signed Jack the Ripper was dated September 25, 1888, and it was received September 27, 1888 by a news agency. On October 15, 1888, George Lusk, the president of White chapel received a letter entitled “From Hell” Included in this letter was one half of a human kidney preserved in wine. The letters made the killer “Jack the Ripper” more and more “popular”.
Aside from remaining famous for the brutal murders, Jack the Ripper is fascinating mystery, just because his identity is still unknown.
Through the years, there have been many proposed theories on the true identity of Jack the Ripper. The two most popular theories that still exist today are either; the killer was religious fanatic intent
on ridding the world of prostitution, or that he was a medical doctor. Most people think he was a medical doctor.
In 1894 Melville Macnaghten, the Chief Constable, made a list of the tree most suspects. The first suspect was Mr. M.J. Druitt (5). Druitt was 41 years old and said to be a doctor and of a good family. But later Macnaghten found out that Druitt was 31 years old, and not a doctor. But why did Druitt killed him self one month after the last murder?
The second suspect was Aaron Kosminiski (6). He was a Polish Jew and a resident of Whitechapel. It was known that Kosminiski hatred for women, especially prostitutes. This first seemed the end of the case, but after some really careful research it was found inconclusive. Kosminiski was just found to be a person with a different personality.
The third suspect on the list was a Russian doctor, Michael Ostrog (7). But they had nothing to prove.
The case on Jack the Ripper was closed in 1892, but in the last ten years new information has been discovered. The latest suspects, who did not get so famous was Francis Tumblety (8). He was a doctor in the United States as well in Europe. He was spending the year 1888 in London, the same year as the murders. In November of 1888 he was charged with several accounts of sexual crime acts, and violence against a prostitute. But again he was realised, and he quickly left London.
After he left England there were no more murders that resemble those of jack the ripper.
The story about Jack the Ripper still lives today, films have been made, books have been published, newspapers have been sold, and people have talked about and debated who really perpetrated these vicious and heinous crimes over 100 years ago.
Conclusion
Who was the famous killer Jack the Ripper? What is a question many people thought and thing about everyday. On one knows except the real Jack the Ripper, but many people today thinks Jack the ripper was the last suspect, the doctor from United Stats; Francis Tumblety. He only spend his time in London when the victims was found, and when he got realised he quickly left London. Why did he do that? I think he was Jack the Ripper, and he was so lucky to be realised. But I can not prove anything, no one can or could. The truth is that we are nowhere near finding out who Jack the Ripper was, perhaps we shall never know the truth.
One thing is truth, Jack the Rippers story has lived for over 100 years and many newspapers/filmmakers/writers have made a lot of money out of the ghost of Jack the Ripper. And maybe his story still will be told in 100 years.
Problem expression
When did the killings take place? Who was the victims, and how were they killed? Who were the suspects? Did “Jack the Ripper” ever get court?
