The situation of married mothers is more complex. They have more choices, assuming that their husbands earn enough money to bear all family expenses. In addition these days’ families mainly have one or two children, so it can take at least a few years of their life.
Staying at home gives women more time to look after their children and husband, and also keep a well organised and tidy house. They have time to do good shopping and cooking for their family, which can save the family money. Also there are no problems and expenses such as childminders. Altogether it makes family life more healthy, calm and happy. Especially for the time they have very young children such a decision seems to be obvious. There are other advantages like home education. Mothers have time to observe their children and have an appropriate influence in children’s progress and development. They can use all accessible recourses to make it successful.
Gradually, children grow up and they need more social life with their peers. After children go to school, mothers can think about their own life and future. At the same time as children grow; there is a necessity for more money to be spent. Women can go to work and make this money. I also think that it is unfair to rely all one’s life on a husband’s money. What if he fell sick or lost his job? What if he dies? Can society afford such a waste of women’s education, skills, knowledge and talents? In my opinion, not. The day that women were allowed to get an education changed their future choices and prospects.
The decision to stay at home and look after children brings another problem, which is a lack of social life for women, and depending on specific personality is more or less bothersome. Some times it can cause women depression. I think that a happy and fulfilling woman is a much better mother and wife, than alienated and grumpy person.
All arguments in favour of going out to work are the same for all mothers: married and unmarried. The equal opportunity law also has to be mentioned, which gives same rights for women and men.
Finally, I think that the thesis of this essay is old-fashioned and the decision how to organise family’s life belongs to families. It is well known that sometimes fathers decide to stay at home and look after their children, because their wives earn more money, which shows parents’ flexibility and sense as well as responsibility.
