Invetigation into Wakefield CBD. Is there a pattern between the ages of the pedestrians and the area of the CBD they are found in?

                                                                     

Figure 1) This is the place we stood to record the results in the Centre of Wakefield which we thought could potentially be the core.

We also stood on Kirkgate Street as this is another busy part of the CBD

Next we chose 2 spots which we thought had the potential to be the frame of the CBD which was a small distance away from the centre as we saw that there were less high order shops and it was not as pedestrianised as the centre was. Here we also stood in the same positions we chose for five minutes and then estimated the ages of the pedestrians who crossed a certain point. We chose to stand on Union Street as it was a fair bit away from the centre and was close to many low order shops and services such as a hairdressers and the Wakefield market.

We also went to survey Southgate which we also thought had the potential to be the frame of the CBD.

In conclusion our results have shown us that there is a slight difference between the ages of the pedestrians who visit the core and frame.

Firstly, there were a significant number of people visiting the core of the CBD rather than the frame. Altogether there were 50 more people found in the core rather than the frame. This shows how the core is more populated than the frame already.

Furthermore, outside the cathedral, in the core there were many more pedestrians which we estimated to be between 0-25 years old than any other age group showing that there were more people who shop or visit the core at a younger age than an older age. The same pattern was shown in Kirkgate where 32 pedestrians were between the ages of 0 and 25. However there were still quite a lot of people who visited the core who were 60+ showing that there still is a range of people from different age groups visiting the core.

In the frame, there were a mixture of people from different age groups, but overall there were more pedestrians in the groups 25-40 and 40-60. There were still a number of pedestrians aged between 0 and 25, as well as pedestrians who are older.

Overall, this shows that there are slightly more younger people visiting the core of the CBD, rather than the older pedestrians and there are slightly more older people visiting the frame rather than the core. With this taken into account, there are still a mixed number of pedestrians found at many different ages.
