Is there a pattern between the ages of the pedestrians and the area of the CBD they are found in? Our original idea was to estimate the ages of people found in the core and the frame. By this we were trying to observe any differences between the ages of pedestrians found in the core and frame which we would have hoped would differentiate the core and frame as younger pedestrians may shop in the core rather than the frame. Method Firstly we chose 2 spots in the centre of Wakefield which we thought had potential to be the core and counted the number of people who went past a certain point and also estimated their ages. The age groups we created were quite big so it would be much easier to differentiate the ages of the people and this would also make it less time consuming. ...read more.


Here we also stood in the same positions we chose for five minutes and then estimated the ages of the pedestrians who crossed a certain point. We chose to stand on Union Street as it was a fair bit away from the centre and was close to many low order shops and services such as a hairdressers and the Wakefield market. Figure 3) This is where we stood to record our results on Union street. We also went to survey Southgate which we also thought had the potential to be the frame of the CBD. The same pattern was shown in Kirkgate where 32 pedestrians were between the ages of 0 and 25. However there were still quite a lot of people who visited the core who were 60+ showing that there still is a range of people from different age groups visiting the core. In the frame, there were a mixture of people from different age groups, but overall there were more pedestrians in the groups 25-40 and 40-60. There were still a number of pedestrians aged between 0 and 25, as well as pedestrians who are older. Overall, this shows that there are slightly more younger people visiting the core of the CBD, rather than the older pedestrians and there are slightly more older people visiting the frame rather than the core.
