The British PM, Sir Robert Peel, urged parliament to take action. But too little was done too late. A million people died in the Potato Famine. Many tried to escape by emigrating. However, even the conditions on the ships were so bad that many more died.
Source D shows us one of the long term problems. It gives us a brief description of a Roman Catholic in her school days. Mother Benignus, a nun and the vice principal, was very influential in the teachings of the school. She disliked the English and her family had suffered at the “hands of the British forces”. Therefore, the children were given a very biased and prejudiced view. The British wanted to control the Irish, direct their actions and their destinies. The Irish education system was determined to make young school children believe the British totally suppressed the Irish.

This source contains biased views; this is why I think it is insufficient evidence based on the fact that it is someone’s opinion.
Source G however, a drawing from a protestant book, shows the Catholics persecuting the Protestants. The drawing makes the Catholics look barbaric having both power and control.
This is useful evidence, as it was drawn by a Protestant and it was showing their feelings of fear. They feared the Catholics, as they thought they would be harmed. This was how they viewed the Catholics. Both Protestant and Catholic children were being taught biased and prejudice views which would only exacerbate the problems.
Source E is a cartoon illustrating how the Protestants viewed the Catholics. The Lady is representing Ireland and the man, a priest, is representing the Catholic Church. It shows that the Protestants thought that the Catholic people in Ireland were dominated by the Catholic Church.
This source is not useful evidence, as it is showing two opposing views. Again, these views are biased.
Source F is a map showing the ‘Gerrymander’ in Derry in 1966. The Gerrymander was when the English, the dominant group, created boundaries, so there would be a larger population of Protestants and they could win the election. This would then give the control over boroughs which was to their benefit, as housing and jobs would go to the Protestants and not the Catholics.
This is useful evidence, as it was drawn by a Protestant and it was showing their feelings of fear. They feared the Catholics, as they thought that they would be harmed. This was how they viewed the Catholics.
Source H shows the RUC officers striking a civil rights marcher. Civil rights are when a minority group demonstrate and protest about their social situation. For example, the black people in North America. The Photo shows the police attacking a protester.
Source I is a photograph showing a crowd’s violence as loyalists ambush civil rights marchers at Burntollett. This was meant to be a peaceful march, protesting about Catholic suffering, however, the protestant loyalists ambushed the march. There were many injuries. The police could not cope, so they had to call in more troops.
This is useful evidence as it is a photograph taken by someone showing the Protestants attacking the Catholics at the Civil Rights march.
To conclude this question there is not sufficient evidence to explain why the troubles broke out in Northern Ireland in 1969. Through years of unfortunate events, such as The Potato Famine and a lot of death in Ireland, to disputes over monarchy’s and religions. I believe that one of the main factors of the war would be Bigotry. This is when people will not change what they believe in, no matter what people do or say. For example, their religion. In my opinion, this is good thing; however, the reason why this dispute went on for so long was because of bigotry. Both Catholics and Protestants would step down. Both had their own views; however Protestants were endeavoring to impose their culture on the Irish.
Many people have their own opinions and views which may cause trouble wherever we are in the world. This was all about the English trying to oppress the Irish, who wanted their own rule and an independent Ireland.
